About the role

As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at EpiSci on the Applied Gov team, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing the architecture that enables the delivery of tactical autonomy software at scale. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in the design and deployment of cloud-based infrastructure and services. Demonstrated competence working with one or more hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, etc.) is required. You should also have experience working with modern infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform and foundational cloud technologies like Kubernetes and Docker. This position is open only to U.S. citizens.

At EpiSci, you will:

  • Design, operate, and maintain the deployment of cloud-based infrastructure and applications into a diverse array of operating environments including commercial cloud, U.S. government networks, and client networks
  • Manage the release process for Kubernetes-native, containerized software applications designed using a modern microservices approach and provide support throughout the operational life-cycle
  • Collaborate with DevOps and autonomy engineering teams to identify requirements for cloud infrastructure and deploy into appropriate environments to meet these needs in a timely fashion
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity & compliance engineers to ensure regulatory requirements and controls are successfully implemented across cloud environments consistent with U.S. government requirement and law
  • Implement cloud cost accounting and cost control measures to ensure responsible spend of organizational and/or customer resources on cloud infrastructure

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure and basic scripting language (Python, Bash, etc.)
  • Expertise in deploying cloud-native software applications built on Kubernetes for scalability and reliability
  • Expertise in Docker as a containerization technology and implementation of a microservices architecture
  • Experience in designing and implementing cloud infrastructure and services through IaC tools like Terraform
  • Experience in applying security / regulatory controls and vulnerability patching across all components of cloud infrastructure including base OS images, VPC networking, and IAM solutions
  • Experience working with various distributions of Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, etc.)
  • Prior exposure to the services offered by one or more of the major cloud providers (AWS & AWS GovCloud is preferred)

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel as projects require; estimated average travel is once every other month for between 2 days up to 1 week (~10%)

Security Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance

Nice to have:

  • Experience deploying on-premise Kubernetes clusters in a 'bare metal' environment (i.e. not into a commercial cloud provider's service solutions) and/or 'air-gapped networks'
  • Experience deploying software tooling and managing infrastructure in classified U.S. government networks
