The Role
As a Cloud Engineer in the Platform team you will be responsible for setting up and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our innovative Data Management Platform (DMP) product lines. As a member of the Platform team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other multi-disciplinary engineers to create sophisticated software solutions. You will work on challenging problems that will test and expand your technical skills. You will be responsible for, and actively participate in the operation of our software in a production environment. You will partner with other software engineers not only within the DMP team but in other departments within the company to coordinate work that crosses team boundaries.
Responsibilities
- Setup and build processes that are easy to use for development and production, yet secure.
- Setup and maintain infrastructure in our AWS environment using Terraform.
- Tune our datastores like Couchbase, ElasticSearch, and Kafka.
- Create and maintain monitoring and alerting for our production systems.
- Optimize our continuous integration environment, manage our dependencies, and facilitate testing of our code.
- Improve our deployment processes based on Docker, ECS, and Kubernetes.
- Continuously work with the software development teams and provide guidance during the design phases.
- Act as one of the Subject Matter Expert for DevOps within the engineering organization.
- Take part in planning, and support the daily operations of the team.
- Work with and learn from a talented team of engineers and product managers located in Switzerland and the United States;
Required Skills and Attributes
- You have a solid background in system security.
- You can write code and scripts.
- You tend to not do things manually more than twice, you would rather automate.
- You love solving problems and digging deeper.
- You are self-directed and hands-on.
- Able to communicate well in English.
- Experience with Lean engineering practices;
- Strong and diverse technical background;
- A strong bias toward execution and incremental delivery of business value;
- Ability to work independently and to be self-aligning;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to dive-deep and be hands-on when needed;
Experience Requirement
- 3+ years of experience working as a Cloud Engineer;
- In-depth knowledge in AWS, and at least in one scripting language such as Python, Bash;
- Advanced knowledge of databases and messaging systems (e.g. Couchbase, Kafka);
- Advanced knowledge of infrastructure as code and continuous integration and deployment
- Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)
Education Requirement
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
