Job Summary

Barings Client Portfolio Managers work in close partnership and coordination with investment and sales teams and other stakeholders within the organization as subject matter experts, focusing on business development, client servicing and product development for certain investment strategies.

This position will support all Barings’ Public Equity strategies.  The successful candidate will work closely with senior team members, the investment team, and sales to support existing clients, and to help drive future growth in Barings’ Public Equities strategies.

This position is located in Hong Kong and will report to the Head of Global Equity Business Development and Client Portfolio Management located in the United States.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and prepare marketing and servicing materials for the team. This will include pitch books as well as scheduled and ad-hoc updates on equity markets and specific aspects of an investment strategy (e.g. monthly and quarterly commentaries, market reviews, market outlook, performance reviews, portfolio positioning etc).
  • Collaborate with various teams internally to provide strategy specific responses to RFPs and DDQs.
  • Develop a close partnership with investment teams to deepen knowledge and expertise. This includes:
    • Attending investment team meetings 
    • Responding in a timely manner to client and prospect requests
  • Communicate investment strategies internally and externally with the goal of growing assets under management. For more senior members of the team this includes active participation in external client meetings and events.
  • Monitor market developments and competitor intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in a related discipline.
  • Strong time management, organizational, facilitation and collaboration skills. 
  • Ability to work under deadline pressures and prepared to work outside normal working hours due to coordinating with colleagues in other regions.
  • Relevant work experience of 3-5 years, ideally in either an investment management or investment specialist/product strategist/client portfolio manager role.
  • A passion for financial markets and proficiency in Public Equities specifically.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An analytical approach and problem-solving mindset.
  • Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English and be able to read and write in English and Chinese.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive tasks and perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to meet all deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel required, including experience using MS Office software to produce high quality presentations.
