The Career Development Specialist is a 12-month grant funded position that will service one or more of the VCU Health System areas including: Upper Middle Peninsula/ Northern Neck Virginia and Southside Virginia with additional support including Central Virginia. The career development specialist will meet with program participants throughout the first year of employment to identify and report barriers and increase retention. The career development specialists will also assist program participants with identifying career and educational goals and creating a career path.

The Career Development Specialist will meet with new hires, departmental leadership, and workforce development intermediaries to reduce turnover rates for entry-level employment while providing career guidance to team members.

The Career Development Specialist will work closely with the Workforce Development & Strategies manger and program manager to identify retention needs and support the onboarding for workforce development program participants.

The Career Development Specialist will assist individuals in outlining career goals and mapping out educational pathways to achieve those goals, to include developing and leading educational activities and assisting in the design of workforce development curricula.

The Career Development Specialist will work closely with VCUHS Human Resources to outline educational assistance benefits that can support individuals’ goals.

The Career Development Specialist will assist in creating and maintaining a retention plan.

The Career Development Specialist will support participants as they move through the various programs.

The Career Development Specialist will execute marketing campaigns and events to drive participation in community workforce programs.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in education, Counseling, Human Resources, or a related field from an accredited program

Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience
3 years of experience establishing educational and career development activities, planning workforce development courses and curriculum, and creating and implementing a retention plan.
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks & meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as demonstrated excellence and accuracy in communicating with both internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse workforce and student environment.
