Job Summary
A Buyer is responsible for effectively sourcing and procuring wood products and related products, in conjunction with other buyers, other purchasing departments, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities.
Works under general supervision; relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Identifies material sources that are relative to the needs of the facilities assigned.

Develops and maintains a relationship with sales and sales management of key suppliers and demonstrates the ability and willingness to translate that relationship into solid cash and program business.

Procures products that meet or exceed the quality, service, and price requirements of the assigned facilities.

Provides current market levels and an accurate prediction for the future direction of the market.

Develops and maintains a clear understanding of the processes and products produced at those facilities

Gains and maintains an understanding of the manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, sales programs, competitors, and service needs for the facilities assigned.

Proactively offers relevant products to sales and plant management.

Helps develop and grow sales and margin by developing an effective working relationship with sales and management.

Operates inventory software efficiently and accurately as follows:

Creates and updates purchase orders.
-
Responds to and settles claims as they develop, according to Company policies.

Navigates Cardex in effort to keep on top of inventory.

Sets up and navigates buy lists.

Prepares various reports as required.

Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.

Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in lumber industry.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and other business software.

Working knowledge of lumber math and business math.

Working knowledge of commodity market conditions and dynamics.

Working knowledge of lumber and panel grade rules
