Your Role
As a Senior Associate / Investment Manager at NLC, you will be instrumental in building and supporting groundbreaking new ventures, mainly within our biotech cluster. This role demands significant expertise in forming consortiums and syndicates, alongside a proven ability to craft innovative deal structures and achieve successful investment results.
In recent years, NLC has significantly expanded its focus in the Biotech/Therapeutics sector, culminating in a robust and expanding array of ventures. As the new Senior Associate / Investment Manager for Biotech, you will work closely with our biotech cluster to maximize the performance of our portfolio.
Your responsibilities, focused on the biotech sector, include:
- Lead end-to-end investment processes, including the coordination of the financial due diligence, valuation and negotiation.
- Find creative ways to finance early-stage portfolio companies as they try to navigate their way through the financing ‘valley of death’.
- Build and maintain relationships with a network of potential co-investors such as venture capital investors, family offices, private investors and semi-governmental investors (e.g. ROMs in The Netherlands).
- Provide hands-on guidance and support to portfolio companies, leveraging your expertise and industry insights to drive growth and success.
- Collaborate with entrepreneurs, founders, and external stakeholders to structure investment deals that align with strategic goals.
- Conduct thorough market research to identify emerging trends regarding individual investment opportunities.
- Prepare financial analysis to support and inform follow-on investment and exit decisions - for instance, Waterfall analysis, cap table and NPV modelling.
- Assess business models, financial projections, and operational strategies to evaluate investment viability including competitive landscape market size, pricing analysis and positioning.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, market dynamics, and regulatory changes affecting the healthtech sector.
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in finance, business, biotechnology, life sciences, or a related field.
- >5 years relevant experience in life science venture capital, private equity, investment banking, or a strategic financial role within life sciences.
- Proven experience in the Biotech/Therapeutics sector, with a solid background in evaluating, structuring, and closing high-value deals, as well as a comprehensive understanding of the market dynamics and regulatory environment specific to biotechnology and therapeutics.
- Creative thinker with the ability to navigate complex investment scenarios.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to lead projects, influence stakeholders effectively and manage / coach more junior team members.
- Strong negotiation and deal structuring abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
