Bioinformatics Scientist

Empirico, a clinical-stage biotechnology company that combines unmatched expertise in human genetics-driven target discovery with world-class capabilities in siRNA medicines, is looking for a talented bioinformatics scientist with software development skills. This individual will play a pivotal role in creating a proprietary software platform focused on storing, analyzing, and managing data crucial to our drug design process.

Responsibilities

• Your responsibilities will include the development of software solutions critical to Empirico's drug discovery effort. You will be expected to:
• Assist in designing and developing Empirico's in-house software platform that will be the backbone for storing, retrieving, and analyzing datasets pertinent to drug design and therapeutic target identification.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and integrate scientific workflows into the platform.
• Develop robust, scalable, and maintainable code to facilitate advanced data analysis.
• Work closely with team members to identify and address software platform needs, improving process efficiency and ensuring data integrity.
• Employ software development best practices to ensure our platform meets quality standards, conducting code reviews and leading internal testing and debugging efforts.
• Manage the integration of large, complex biological data sets, ensuring efficient data processing, storage, and retrieval capabilities.
• Communicate technical and complex information effectively to a diverse audience, regularly updating software development progress, challenges, and proposed solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in bioinformatics or a related discipline (e.g., computer science, mathematics) with 0-3 years of experience
• Proficient in at least one programming language (preferably Python or JavaScript)
• Prior experience with frontend frameworks, such as React
• Experience with database management systems such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Experience using cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
• Hands-on experience processing, analyzing, and visualizing biological datasets.
• Familiarity with the use of version control systems such as Git
• Demonstrated ability for writing readable, testable, and SOLID code
• An ideal candidate is self-motivated and can learn and work independently.

The estimated annual base salary range for this role is $80,000 to $110,000. Individual compensation decisions will be based on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills.
