Essential Responsibilities

  • Review patient medical records and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
  • Conduct audits of billing processes and documentation
  • Identify areas for improvement in billing accuracy
  • Develop and implement quality control measures
  • Provide feedback and training to billing staff
  • Ensure complete and accurate coding for all patient encounters, procedures, and diagnoses
  • Maintain compliance with coding guidelines, federal regulations, and insurance requirements
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when needed
  • Participate in regular audits to maintain quality and accuracy standards
  • Stay current with coding updates, regulatory changes, and best practices
  • Support billing operations by providing accurate coding for timely claim submission

Required Qualifications

  • Current CPC, CCS, or equivalent medical coding certification
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on clinical coding experience 
  • Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional specialty coding certifications (e.g., COC, CIC)
  • Experience in multiple medical specialties
  • Background in coding audit and compliance
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle management
  • Experience with coding software and computer-assisted coding (CAC)
