As a Backend Software Engineer at Via, you’ll work within our R&D center as a member of our backend team. You’ll design, develop, implement, maintain and troubleshoot in a cutting-edge environment. Within Via’s infrastructure, you’ll focus on building optimized, scalable and innovative designs. Via prides itself on being a true partner to the public sector in helping make transit better for everyone but especially those in low income and minority communities. You will be joining Via at a time of rapid growth, impacting hundreds of thousands of riders weekly, many of whom represent special needs populations, students, caregivers, and more.
What You'll Do:
- Be responsible for the implementation of cutting-edge microservices from inception to deployment, shaping the backbone of our innovative products.
- Take ownership of the development lifecycle, from crafting robust code to orchestrating seamless deployment. Drive discussions on design, testing strategies, maintenance and operational excellence.
- Embrace all aspects of agile software development by actively contributing to design discussions, and ensuring rapid and reliable deployment of features.
- Spearhead the end-to-end lifecycle of new product features, ensuring not just functionality, but also optimal performance, uptime, and scalability.
- Influence system architecture, development practices, and more, leaving a lasting imprint on our technology stack and product development.
- Document design decisions, architecture, and implementation details to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality features and products on schedule.
- Research, suggest, and advocate for new technologies to boost our product offerings
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in backend software, with a proven track record of designing and building scalable, high-performance systems
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in Python, Java, C++, or C#
- Solid programming foundations: data-structures, multi-threading, OOP and design patterns
- Strong understanding of CI/CD concepts and hands-on experience with related tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Github actions
- Strong knowledge of database technologies (SQL/MySQL)
- Experienced with low-level performance optimizations, including profiling and memory analysis
- Expertise with cloud platforms: AWS, Serverless, Kubernetes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to drive work forward independently in a cross-functional, geographically distributed team environment
Compensation and Benefits:
- Final salary will be determined by the candidate’s experience, knowledge, and skills. Salary reflected does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable
- Salary Range: $90,000 - $140,000 per year
