Maxar is seeking a Junior Backend Software Development Engineer to join the Laika Mission Applications segment of the KTIS program. In this role, you will support the development and integration of various intelligence capabilities into a test and subsequently operational environment. You will be working with senior engineers developing an API Gateway for a classified private cloud, developing and maintaining job orchestration tools, and building automated site reliability. This position will require collaboration across multiple teams and a focus on optimizing performance and observability.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems, with a focus on optimizing performance and ensuring reliability for mission-critical applications.
• Implement and maintain RESTful APIs and API Gateway using industry standard tools.
• Maintain and extend job orchestration tools
• Enhance backend infrastructure to detect and prevent configuration issues, optimizing code quality and deployment stability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the backend stack, including server-side logic, database interactions, and integration with third-party services.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate backend services with mission critical data flow and databases.
• Maintain an automated health monitoring system to data flow and operational issues.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to streamline backend service deployment and address configuration management challenges.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must have a current/active TS/SCI clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience may be substituted for a degree.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in software development.
• Willing to work 5 days a week in the office.
• Experience developing software using Python/Java, or similar programming language.
• Experience developing API's, API security, API gateway, Kong, or similar API gateway technologies.
• Experience with Database administration, Postgres, Redis, or similar technologies.
• Working knowledge of agile software development practices and tools, such as Jira, Confluence, and git.
• Experience with DevOps tools like Docker, NIFI, ELK stack and scripting.

Desired Skills:

• API Rest Framework development/maintenance for geospatial and remote sensing applications.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
• Experience with HPC.
• Experience with OpenStack or similar hypervisor, AWS and cloud engineering/networking.

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
• The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $88,000.00 - $146,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
