Backend Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to join our growing Istanbul-based Cherry Engineering Team! As a Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for the server-side web application logic, development, maintenance of various microservices, as well as for the integration of the front-end part.

Qualifications & Experience

• BSc/MSc/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience
• Experience in one or more general-purpose object-oriented programming languages - we write Kotlin
• Proficiency with OOP concepts, large-scale software architecture, networking, distributed system, and UNIX/Linux environments
• Good understanding of fundamental design principles for a scalable application
• Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases, key-value stores, and search engines (MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, etc.)
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies such as Javascript, HTML5, and CSS3
• Familiarity with unit test and debugging skills
• Proficiency in code versioning tools such as Git
• Strong sense of analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Highly Effective time management and multitasking skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice to Have

• Proficiency with Java and Spring Framework (Boot, MVC, Data, Cloud, Security, etc)
• Experience with Service-oriented architecture, microservices, and REST APIs
• Experience with architecting, designing, and implementing large scale systems
• Experience with learning distributed systems and concurrent programming
• Scripting skills e.g. Python, shell, etc.
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Working knowledge with at least one cloud computing service provider such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and/or others
• Experience or willing to learn payment processing technologies
• Prior experience with SCRUM/Agile methodologies
• Contributions to OpenSource projects

This position is full-time and based in Istanbul, Turkey.
