Summary/Job Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineering and Quality Lead to drive our organization's automation testing strategy, ensuring comprehensive functional testing and advancing overall software quality. The ideal candidate will lead automation frameworks, manage vendor relationships, and establish scalable quality practices aligned with our agile software development environment, particularly emphasizing SaaS solutions.
Essential Functions:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Develop and implement an enterprise-wide automation testing and quality assurance strategy.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for test automation frameworks, tools, and methodologies.
- Evaluate, select, and manage third-party automation engineering vendors.
- Collaborate with technology leaders to align automation and QA practices with organizational objectives.
- Work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to identify and address potential risks, quality issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Manage the execution of functional, regression, performance, and load testing using automation tools and frameworks.
Automation Excellence:
- Establish and maintain scalable, robust automation frameworks for web, mobile, and API testing, especially in SaaS environments.
- Oversee integration of automated testing into continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins).
- Drive enhancements in test automation coverage, reliability, and efficiency.
- Continuously improve the automation test suite to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Quality Assurance Oversight:
- Ensure comprehensive and effective functional testing processes across all product lines.
- Continuously improve test design, planning, and execution to detect defects earlier and reduce overall testing cycles.
- Advocate for and implement best practices in QA methodologies and agile testing processes.
People and Vendor Management:
- Build, mentor, and lead a team of internal and staff augmented QA and automation engineers.
- Develop hiring models and strategies including team structures/designs optimized for internal and outsourced resources.
- Regularly evaluate vendor performance to ensure adherence to quality benchmarks, timelines, and budgets.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct supervision and leadership of QA automation team and management of vendor relationships.

Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 10+ years of experience in Quality Assurance and Test Automation roles, including at least 5 years in leadership positions.
- Extensive experience managing automation in SaaS-driven environments.
- Proven ability to manage third-party automation vendors effectively.
- Proficient in automation frameworks, scripting languages (Java, Python, JavaScript) and CI/CD integrations.
- Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, SDLC, and related QA practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Insurance industry technology experience
- Experience with advanced methodologies like performance and security testing.
- Relevant certifications such as ISTQB.
Communications:
- Ability to clearly articulate strategic directions, complex test strategies, and results to diverse audiences including executives, peers, and team members.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency with automation tools (Selenium, Team City, Cypress, Postman).
- Expertise in CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitLab, Jenkins.
- Familiarity with ALM tools (Agile Lifecycle Management) and test management software.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and data analysis.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid work model with required office presence per organizational guidelines. Occasional travel may be necessary for meetings, seminars, or training.
Mitsui Sumitomo currently employs a hybrid work environment where staff are required to physically work in their assigned office at least three days per week. Requested travel is infrequent but visits to other office locations for meetings, seminars, or training may be necessary.
