Job Description
As an Associate, Tax, you will work closely with internal partners, the senior tax team, and external tax advisors to provide support and execution to ensure that enterprise tax risk and compliance obligations are managed appropriately. You will assist in the management of CPP Investments’ tax function, including ensuring CPP Investments’ and its subsidiaries meet all tax compliance obligations for income tax, withholding tax, indirect taxes, and related tax matters. You will also help support enterprise-wide priorities and initiatives.
Team Description
We are looking for a motivated individual to support CPP Investments’ tax footprint. This is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of a global and dynamic tax team. Accountabilities:
- Lead and manage the outsourcing of income, indirect and withholding tax filing processes, collaborating with external advisors to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and establish effective communication channels between the tax department and internal enabling departments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support enterprise-wide initiatives and objectives.
- Assist in the management of tax audits and examinations, interacting with tax authorities and external advisors to resolve tax compliance issues.
- Monitor changes in relevant tax laws and regulations, evaluating their impact on CPP Investments and providing guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and organize, or review tax forms, tax slips, and consent forms.
- Contribute to the enhancement of tax processes, controls and documentation, including the implementation of new technology within the tax function.
Qualifications
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA), or equivalent professional designation.
- Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field (i.e., Finance, Accounting, Business, etc.)
- 5+ year of progressive relevant experience (US tax experience is an asset)
- Practical experience or strong interest in applying GenAI tools and techniques is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and an understanding of emerging workplace communication, collaboration tools and technology.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, including ability to work cooperatively with different stakeholders and manage outside tax advisors located in multiple jurisdictions.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
