Associate Sequencing Analyst

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

This position will join the QC team to analyze next generation sequencing results and communicate these results with depositing scientists around the world. Additionally, the Associate Sequencing Analyst will assist and take ownership of other QC team responsibilities (ex. Viral Genome Sequencing analysis, Sanger sequencing analysis, SOP updates, etc.).

LOCATION & POLICY ON REMOTE WORK

This is a hybrid position with weekly in-office requirements. Our beautiful office space in Watertown has free, ample parking with a complimentary shuttle from Harvard Square and is on multiple bus lines, with the cost of public transit covered by Addgene for those onsite 4 days a week or more. 

 

The Role:

As an Associate Sequencing Analyst, your responsibilities will primarily relate to the downstream processing and analysis of sequencing data. Under the direction of the Sr. Quality Control Manager, you will analyze next generation sequencing results, correspond with depositing scientists, and assist the Quality Control Team with additional projects.

To Succeed in this Role, You Will:

  • Perform, document, and report quality control (QC) analysis of plasmid and viral samples following existing standard procedures. QC analysis includes verifying sample functionality through DNA sequence analysis of Illumina and Nanopore next generation sequencing data, as well as diagnostic restriction enzyme digests.
  • Email with depositing laboratories to communicate results and resolve QC issues
  • Assist with NGS-related bioinformatic processes including post-run data processing and uploading of sequencing results.
  • Contribute to Quality Control Team goals, best practices, and special projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Candidates should be self-motivated, organized individuals who want to be a part of Addgene’s mission. Specific qualifications include:
  • MS in Biology or other life science or BA/BS with 2+ years related experience
  • Experience with cloning, primer design, and sequence analysis
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English; strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work closely with scientists required
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with standard molecular biology practices including bacterial transformations, DNA preparation, and digests is a plus 
  • Familiarity with reading scientific research articles
  • Familiarity with general computer software, including sequence analysis software, Google Workspace, and MS Office
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing analysis using bioinformatic software preferred
  • Familiarity with a programming or scripting language (Python, Bash, R, etc) and command line tools a plus
