Associate Editorial Director
The Associate Editorial Director is instrumental in overseeing editorial operations, driving strategic growth initiatives, and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. This position requires advanced leadership skills, extensive content experience, and a commitment to achieving strategic objectives through effective communication and collaboration.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Develop and adhere to complex timelines involving multiple team members and departments to ensure timely execution of projects and initiatives.
- Develop strategic growth plans that involve coordination across groups, including conducting SWOT analyses and leveraging insights to inform decision-making.
- Cascade communication effectively through groups, ensuring alignment with company objectives and fostering collaboration.
- Oversee extensive and diverse content production, both print and digital, to maintain quality standards and meet audience needs.
- Manage direct reports, including managers of others, assigning, and validating daily tasks and programs to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of management principles and set SMART goals to drive performance and achieve objectives.
- Conduct weekly team meetings and daily huddles to provide updates, foster collaboration, and drive accountability.
- Apply knowledge of the 7 Strata of Strategy, one-page business plans, an owner's mentality, insurgency, and frontline obsession to inform decision-making and drive strategic direction.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills, with the ability to delegate effectively to achieve strategic plans and drive results.
- Manage staff effectively, including involvement in firing decisions and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Lead 4 to 9 associates across multiple brands or offerings, fostering friendly competition to draw out a passion for winning and achieve strategic objectives.
- Follow established strategies and best practices while continuously seeking out ways to improve, innovate, and boost efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
- A lifelong learner who is always hungry to gain and apply knowledge.
- Six or more years of experience in editorial roles, with demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
- Proven track record of driving growth and achieving strategic objectives through effective communication and collaboration.
- Extensive content experience across print and digital mediums, with a commitment to maintaining quality standards and meeting audience needs.
- Strong understanding of management principles and the ability to set SMART goals to drive performance and achieve objectives.
- Familiarity with Scaling Up and other strategic frameworks, with the ability to apply insights to inform decision-making.
- Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to delegate effectively and foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Advanced staff management skills, including involvement in firing decisions and fostering friendly competition to drive results.
- Commitment to following established strategies and best practices while continuously seeking out ways to improve and innovate.
