The Position
Provide holistic, insight-driven consultation and evidence-based strategic and tactical guidance to all levels of internal stakeholders through the integration of primary market research and secondary data analytics. Incumbent must have the knowledge and technical skills to do this across a brand's lifecycle including pre-launch, launch, growth, maturity, and LOE. Contribute to the development of the organization's strategic vision via in-depth market analyses, develop innovative solutions to complex, unstructured problems with minimal guidance, and provide actionable insights to guide the business.
Relationships
Reports to the Director, MAPA Insights. Internal relationships include close interactions with Market Access teams, including MAPA (Market Access & Public Affairs) leadership, brand or TA (Therapy Area) teams, and other enterprise functions (Sales, Marketing Operations, Market Access, Pricing & Contract Ops, Medical, Legal) as well as global market research and brand teams. Drive and/or support all US specific market research projects and oversee the work of support staff that will assist in the project execution and management of specific research projects. May supervise junior market researchers, interns and/or contingent workers. External relationships include interactions with vendors/strategic partners/outside consultants.
Essential Functions
- Analysis and interpretation:
- Ensures alignment of initiatives to the company's overall business objectives and brand(s) strategic imperatives
- Collaboration & communication:
- Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders including MAPA, brand teams, other functions within FIES (Advanced Analytics, Data & Analytics Strategy, IT, Pricing & Contracting Ops.), other departments within NNI, and global brand teams and global market research as needed
- Ensure clear and ongoing communication of integrated insights from both primary market research as well as secondary data analysis , key conclusions and recommendations through formal and informal channels
- Leadership and development:
- Must be able to represent Enterprise Insights LT and interact at the Executive Team level
- Assess and develop new processes and techniques to advance market research capabilities and improve internal efficiencies
- Champion the Triple Bottom Line in Market Research and internal strategy consulting
- Develop innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems; Make recommendations that have a significant impact on company (time, people, budget) resources and potentially affect the company's ability to achieve its goals
- Lead collaborative interactions among market researchers to ensure better practices sharing on MR approaches, techniques, consolidated presentation development, business issue identification and methods for addressing help; ensure that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, per direction and are internally consistent with group deliverable quality
- Pro-actively seek process improvement opportunities by challenging existing processes, proposing solutions, and driving approved implementation plans
- Leadership and market research consultation:
- Ensure insight driven consultation to the MAPA team through the development, execution, and integration of primary market research and secondary data analytics. Support the knowledge and experience building within a given therapy area, including identifying relevant market shaping activities
- Market research consultation:
- Develop holistic and comprehensive market assessments and oversee other ad hoc analyses to proactively address issues in support of business objectives
- Independently provide actionable recommendations based on a) thorough analysis of internal and external business issues and environmental factors b) careful assessment of available data and determination of knowledge gaps c) translating data into insights with business impact
- Lead development of assigned market research plans in conjunction with Director, MAPA Insights and incorporate needs and opportunity assessments with Market Access leadership; Consult with MAPA teams on proper focus and prioritization of market research resources against business needs
- Leverage decision-influence role to drive development of appropriate lifecycle platform, help optimize marketing mix through strategic and tactical custom research across channels, enhance forecast accuracy through primary forecast impact research, provide foundation for customer segmentation, resulting in optimized, tailored Market Access insights, uncover and exploit customer (e.g. payor) insights to ultimately enhance customer connection and gain access, leverage customized tracking results to identify gaps and opportunities that can be utilized to maximize performance and blunt competitor efforts, etc.
- Market research coordination analyses and design:
- Design and analyze hypothesis-driven custom qualitative and quantitative marketing research projects with actionable recommendations in development/support of Market Access strategy and tactics and in alignment with business planning process
- Oversee the management of qualitative and quantitative marketing research projects, associated budgets, timelines and relations with outside consultants
- Marketing effectiveness leadership:
- Act as primary focal point for MAPA analysis/insights needs including co-leading the Strategic Planning Process for MAPA, and translating Market Access strategy to actionable insights and analytics plans for MAPA
- Actively demonstrates a strong leadership role across the organization by effectively promoting and engaging in close collaboration with key internal stakeholders
- Proactively educates, shares information and acts as an experienced resource and strategic advisor across MAPA, evidenced by MAPA teams consulting with incumbent on all key strategic and tactical plans
Physical Requirements
10-20% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree required; MS or MBA preferred
- A minimum of 10 years of marketing/sales reporting and analysis experience in a pharmaceutical, consumer packaged goods, or marketing organization required. 8 years of experience in primary market research or strategic consulting required
- Ability to influence people at senior levels in the organization and facilitate cooperation of internal and external partners for both intelligence acquisition and recommendation acceptance
- Creative problem solving with ability to solve complex, unstructured problems; see big picture from scattered pieces of information and present complex and disparate data in a clear and concise manner; must have an ability to see beyond the confines of MR data to broader business issues
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects with conflicting deadlines, and provide recommendations that will assist in the development of commercial strategies
- Excellent writing, presentation, project management and strong influencing skills required. Solid communication skills with ability to succinctly express point of view in various formats for a variety of deliverables to a diverse audience across multiple specialty areas
- Expert Microsoft Office skills, specifically PowerPoint and Excel, MS Access, SQL, or other database platform a plus. Knowledge of Tableau use and integration a plus
- High proficiency with IQVIA data sets and other industry sources required
- Networking - positively interacts with any relevant source of information. Builds strong relationships. Proven experience working cross functionally and partnering with brand teams and other groups within an organization
- Proven search and research skills including experience with the use of online databases (scientific, business, patent, etc.)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills required. Highly proficient in integrating diverse sources of information and formulating business relevant strategic recommendations
- Strong understanding of drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management
- Works independently and able to guide members of team toward achieving objectives and sets direction of self and others accordingly
