POSITION SUMMARY
Natera is currently seeking an Associate Director of Machine Learning and Bioinformatics to join our Bioinformatics Research Team focused on Epigenomics in Oncology. Natera’s mission is to change the management of disease worldwide by using information gained from a simple blood draw to detect disease early and proactively inform treatment. The individual will lead a team of Bioinformatics and Machine Learning Scientists and will be responsible for the planning and execution of research projects related to cancer detection. The ideal candidate should be an experienced hands-on team leader and have a strong background in biomedical data engineering and science, algorithm development, and statistics.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and create innovative advanced machine learning models for large biomedical datasets

Envision, plan, and execute research strategies in collaboration with other cross-functional stakeholders

Lead a medium-sized team of Bioinformatics and Machine Learning Scientists and support their professional growth

Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence

Work closely with molecular biologists and clinical scientists to solve challenging problems

Contribute to experimental design and ensure data integrity and quality control

Communicate findings clearly across all levels and functions of the company and act as a subject matter expert

Present results at conferences and publish in top-tier journals
QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field

Minimum of 8 years of working in biomedical data science and extensive managerial experience (experience in oncology or diagnostics is a plus)

Track-record of leading and developing state-of-the-art and impactful machine learning models

Experience in Python and various machine learning packages (scikit-learn, pytorch, etc.)

Deep understanding of sequencing data and large-scale datasets

Ability to visualize findings and summarize results in oral and written form for both technical and non-technical audiences

High scientific rigor and eager to teach and learn about new machine learning techniques
The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
