POSITION SUMMARY

Natera is currently seeking an Associate Director of Bioinformatics to join our Bioinformatics Research Team focused on Cancer Early Detection. Natera’s mission is to change the management of disease worldwide by using information gained from a simple blood draw to detect disease early and proactively inform treatment. The individual will lead a team of Bioinformatics Scientists and will be responsible for the planning and execution of research projects related to cancer detection. The ideal candidate should be an experienced hands-on team leader and have a strong background in algorithm development, biomedical data processing and analysis, and statistics. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Envision, plan, and execute research strategies in collaboration with other cross-functional stakeholders

  • Build a team of Bioinformatics Scientists and support their professional growth

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence

  • Work closely with molecular biologists and clinical scientists to solve challenging problems

  • Contribute to experimental design and ensure data integrity and quality control

  • Communicate findings clearly across all levels and functions of the company and act as a subject matter expert

  • Present results at conferences and publish in top-tier journals

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field

  • Minimum of 8 years of working experience in bioinformatics and extensive managerial and cross-functional experience

  • Track-record of leading and developing state-of-the-art and impactful bioinformatics methods

  • Experience in Python

  • Experience using Linux command-line tools and writing shell scripts

  • Deep understanding of sequencing data and large-scale datasets

  • Ability to visualize findings and summarize results in oral and written form for both technical and non-technical audiences

  • High scientific rigor and eager to teach and learn about new computational methods and biology

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
