The Position

Grid United has numerous large scale transmissions projects underway and is currently identifying and studying additional prospective projects across North America. With patient capital backing and led by experienced energy veterans, Grid United is in a fast-growth stage, boasting a purpose-built team of motivated and entrepreneurial talent.  We are particularly focused on effective stakeholder engagement and positive involvement with the communities in the areas where we are working. This growing team is seeking to add an Associate, Commercial Analytics to support projects throughout their lifecycle with analysis and market expertise that illustrates their value propositions, and which will be used to inform internal decision making and customer interactions. This role will report to the Director of Commercial Analytics and will be located in Houston.

Key Responsibilities & Outcomes:

Quantify and communicate value proposition

  • · Support internal and consultant-driven analyses to draw out different aspects of the value proposition of Grid United’s projects by vetting study inputs and outputs, providing market knowledge to the team, and packaging results for use internally and with stakeholders.
  • · Synthesize information from utility IRPs, ISO/RTO planning processes, and customer feedback to design and perform analyses ranging from backcasts to forward-looking production cost modeling or loss of load expectation studies and communicate the results both internally and externally to support prospecting, development, and commercialization.

Market research and design

  • · Become an expert on regulated and deregulated electricity markets, utility and ISO/RTO planning, and use that knowledge to find new ways to demonstrate the value of interregional transmission.
  • · Coordinate with transmission strategy, regulatory affairs, and external consultants to develop and implement strategies to support robust treatment of interregional transmission in existing and emerging markets.

Enhance internal capabilities

  • · Contribute to the development of Grid United’s internal analysis capabilities by automating repeated analyses, integrating new datasets, and finding innovative ways to explore the benefits of interregional transmission.
  • · Expand Grid United’s ability to extract information out of consultant studies, innovate on study methodologies, and perform more complicated in-house analysis to drive projects through prospecting to commercialization.

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • 2+ years' experience in wholesale electricity markets in a market facing, integrated system planning, consulting role or similar.
  • Bachelor's in business administration or any related field. 
  • Experience with production cost modeling (AURORA, PROMOD, PSO, etc) or loss of load expectation modeling is desirable.
  • Excellent quantitative skills including analyzing large datasets in python (preferred) or R.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task efficiently with constant regard for accuracy and quality.
  • Strong writing skills, including both technical and persuasive writing.
  • Deep curiosity for electricity markets and utility/ISO/RTO transmission and resource planning.
  • Ability to read and digest large amounts of information rapidly.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and uncertainty, and project changes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small, nonhierarchical organization.
  • Proactive and open to embracing new challenges.
  • Positive, professional, and energetic team-oriented attitude.
