Afar is seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic photo editor to join our fully-remote art department. Ideally with a background in editorial travel or lifestyle, this full-time role will work closely with the photo director on photo research across both digital and print platforms.
Responsibilities:
Research and source stock and press photography for digital stories as well as packages in our quarterly print magazine
Optimize photos for web and upload into Afar’s CMS
Oversee digital image management between art, edit, and social teams
Keep image archive organized and up-to-date
Negotiate photo rights and usage with agencies and photographers
Assist in managing art department budget across digital and print platforms
Qualifications:
1-2 years photography and/or editorial experience
Ability to work under tight deadlines and limited budgets, and manage multiple projects at once
Experience with photo researching, sourcing imagery from agencies as well as photographers
Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
Must be a proactive self-starter with a collaborative spirit, and be excited about working across multiple departments
Have a strong visual understanding about what makes a good photograph
Passionate about travel, and an interest in conceptualizing new and interesting ways to look at travel
Experience with Adobe Photoshop
Experience with Google Workspace
Not required, but helpful to have experience with Asana
