The Opportunity:
Caraway is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our growing finance team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Accounting, you will support critical accounting functions and assist in maintaining timely and accurate financial reporting. You will play a key role in optimizing and improving accounting processes and systems, contributing to the scalability of our accounting function. The Assistant Controller will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless financial operations in our high-growth environment.

Responsibilities:
Financial Operations and Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and financial reporting.
- Assist in managing the monthly close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations (inventory, deferred revenue, accrued tradespend, sales tax payable, etc.), and variance analyses.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Coach accounting team members and serve as a resource for GAAP accounting treatment.
- Work with extensive data sets to reconcile historical financial transactions across various systems.
- Validate financial information against source data to ensure accuracy.
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Assist in managing and preparing for annual audits, overseeing support collection and open items lists.
- Help develop and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Systems and Process Optimization
- Evaluate, improve, and maintain accounting systems and workflows to support company growth and scalability.
- Standardize and automate account reconciliation processes.
- Collaborate with ERP providers and internal teams to enhance system functionality and ensure alignment with operational needs.
- Implement best practices for process efficiency and internal controls.
- Other related duties as necessary or assigned within a high-growth environment
General Crewmate Responsibilities
- Contribute and add to the Caraway Crew culture by actively participating in employee engagement surveys and semi-annual performance review cycles; attending company wide meetings and events, as schedule allows; bringing a positive and solutions-oriented approach to your day-to-day work environment
- Support ad-hoc projects as needed
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- 7+ years of accounting experience
- BA/BS in Accounting required; CPA preferred
- Ability to reconcile complicated transactions
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP principles and financial reporting
- Experience with ERP systems (Fulfil preferred) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience in the DTC/e-commerce industry or with physical product/inventory
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $125,000 - $160,000 - Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
