Art Director, Digital

Who We Are

M Booth is a culture-first creative agency that attracts the best people and the best brands to a workplace that’s alive with courage, ideas, respect and humanity. We are relentlessly passionate about our clients and their business, whether that means staying at the forefront of the digital and social evolution, sharpening our earned storytelling skills, or unleashing game-changing insights that result in campaigns that win in the marketplace.

We are a hybrid workforce and believe that inspiration, relevance, and leadership are about how you do it, not where you do it from. We continue to be a work from anywhere agency and are leaning into a hub model in NYC and around the country.

Position Overview

As an Art Director on the creative team at M Booth, you’ll be a key senior member who is inspired in the areas of creative thinking and design. Your experience varies and you can dive into all sides of the creative process – from brainstorming concepts to creating polished executions. You’re able to balance both independent and collaborative projects, bouncing from bigger picture tasks to your day-to-day to-dos.

There are no creative “lone wolves” on our team. As an Art Director, you look forward to guiding and mentoring the team and fostering a collaborative work environment. You are proactive about not only pushing our creative executions but also improving the way that we work, our processes, and our team as we continue to grow.

Communication is key: Art Directors are the conduit between the strategists, copywriters, project managers, and designers. Art Directors are direct and proactive in speaking up and giving input. You have a proactive mindset in finding ways to help build and improve our team as we continue to grow.

Overall, Art Directors are responsible for the visual execution of projects. You’ll lead and guide designers, illustrators, and motion designers, while working closely with clients. We’re looking for someone with a personality and experience that will be a great addition to what we currently have and who’s also inspired to grow along with us!

Art Director duties:

  • Client
    • Lead all expressions of creative work for a number of digital and social-first clients, especially those in tech. Know their branding, content, and audience inside and out.
    • Guide content creation from soup to nuts. This might entail brainstorming ideas, fleshing out those concepts and copy with a strategist, presenting the concept to clients, and providing oversight and direction to a team of designers, illustrators, and motion designers
    • Be prepared to be hands-on, when needed, to create. Examples include: deck design, illustrations, layouts, comps, storyboards, etc.
    • Clearly articulate ideas and visual direction to the team and clients. Examples include: writing, moodboards, and/or sketches.
    • Develop visual systems and scalable design guidelines for digital campaigns.
    • Stay informed about social media and industry trends, as well as staying current on digital guidelines and specifications. Maintain a digital library of visual inspiration and digital references
  • Team
    • Mentor and guide team members in achieving their professional goals
    • Work closely with project managers on improving processes, planning scopes, timelines, and resourcing
    • Help build comradery on your team while fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and creative environment
    • Guide other teams on creative processes and best practices

What You’ll Bring:

  • You are not a unicorn, you're a creative chimera. You are part design expert, part ideator, part social media maven, part communicator, part fire-breathing goat.
  • You have 6+ years' of relevant work experience, with a strong background in design and conceptual thinking.
  • You have a portfolio with an emphasis in digital creative work. Social + tech experience is another bonus.
  • You are client facing and at home leading presentations.
  • You possess a genuine interest in and knowledge of emerging technologies, disruptive trends, and cultural tentpoles, and how to experiment with them.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills that enable you to convey ideas or provide critiques clearly and concisely. You have a kean eye for detail. (Did you catch that ‘keen’ was misspelled?)
  • You’re very familiar with branding systems but they don’t define your work. You’re always thinking about ways to push the creative.
  • You know your way around Adobe Creative Cloud: (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) and are able to jump in to help the team out in a pinch. As an Art Director, your main tools of the trade are presentation software (Slides) to communicate concepts and project management software to share feedback.
  • In addition to having a strong design sense, you should have a general knowledge of different types of creative mediums (illustration, animation, photo editing, copywriting, branding, video) and have a secondary skillset in one of those areas.
  • Do you have management and leadership experience? That’s a plus!
  • Team is everything. We pride ourselves on not having big egos. If you like being part of a supportive and selfless group of people, there’s a good chance you’ll be a fit.
  • Intellectual curiosity is rewarded. If you love to read, consume media, tinker and make cool things, we’d love to chat.
  • We’re looking for people who can add to our team -- not just “fit in”. If you have additional skills or experiences not listed in this job description that you could bring to our team, we’d love to hear about them!
  • We know we’re asking a lot but we’re really great.

What We’ll Bring:

Here are a few highlights of the benefits we offer at M Booth:

  • Professional growth and development programs to help advance your career

  • Paid holidays, Unlimited Paid Time Off (Personal, Sick, Vacation), and Summer Fridays
  • Additional Perks: Family Leave, Well-Being Programs, and Commuter Benefits
  • SALARY $90,000-110,000
