Job Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Area Leader - Quality Lab will support the Lab team and ensure that they have a safe environment to work in. The Area Leader - Quality Lab provides instruction, guidance and leadership to the Quality Team, Test Lab, Hot Stamp and Heat Treat Teams. The Area Leader - Quality Lab will assist in solving day to day problems and advance planning utilizing the Magna Employee Charter while implementing policies, procedures and objectives of the company. The Area Leader- Quality Lab will directly support Continuous Improvement in Hot Stamping and Heat-Treating Processes and change validation, as well as manage the day-to-day activities in the test lab and support the Quality Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering / Metallurgy or Quality Degree/Diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in heat treat operations or as a combination of 5 years of formal Metallurgical education and heat treat experience.
  • Minimum 3 years Manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Automotive Quality Field is an asset.
  • Leadership in Metallurgy, heat treat/lab operations or worked as a metallurgical heat treat specialist is an asset
  • Knowledge or background in Customer Specific Process Requirements for Press Hardened Steel and Aluminum Aging Ovens including CQI-9, and other audits, an asset.
  • Knowledge or background in IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA/Control plans and GD&T an asset.
  • 6 Sigma black belt or green belt certificate will be an asset.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integrity and value-driven working style that follows and abides by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
  • Supervises technical and nontechnical employees in accordance with the principles of the Employee Charter and the policies and procedures set out in the Formet Handbook and Area Leader's Manual.
  • Supports Employee Relations
  • Knowledge of safety standards, environmental regulations and responsible for the Health and Safety of your team.
  • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Formet Expectations and Formet's Visions/Values through Magna's Employee Charter.
  • Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Completion of payroll, vacation and overtime scheduling for your team.
  • Provide feedback and performance reviews regularly.
  • Conduct safety talks and communicate safety bulletins.
  • Train Team Members on the specific job hazards.
  • Facilitate Accident and Incident Investigations.
  • Enforce safety rules and correct unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to achieve results.
  • Provide / arrange coverage for absenteeism and overtime.
  • Participate in the investigation and resolution of all customer and supplier concerns.
  • Manage a Quality Lab with a full understanding of the requirements of CQI-9, heat treating.
  • Perform data collection and analysis and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Support initiatives to reduce cycle time, scrap and cost reduction activities.
  • Support initiatives to improve process stability in Hot Stamping and heat treating.
  • Support the development of PFMEA for Hot Stamp and heat treatment.
  • Responsible for Job Elements and SOP for Test lab.
  • Support in the updates and revisions, implementation and archiving of Quality records and documents that pertain to the Quality Lab.
  • Participate in PPAP requirements for Material properties and testing.
  • Maintain customer surveys, audits and customer requirements for Hot stamping and heat treatments (CQI-9).
  • Support the training of all personnel in all quality requirements for Hot stamping and Heat Treating.
  • Ensure support is provided for all departments on all shifts for any material testing requirements.
  • Perform other duties as designated.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office and Manufacturing Environments.
  • Able to work in various locations inside and outside of the plant.
  • Able to support all shifts.
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)


SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING:

  • Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A.
  • Follow and ensure the company's procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
  • Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Formet's safety rules and regulations.
  • Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example.
  • Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
  • As with Safety, Security is everyone's responsibility and Formet requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
