Applications Scientist 1

Based remotely in UK or Europe

We have an exciting new opportunity for an Applications Scientist 1 to join our team and be remotely based within the UK or within one of our Europe Region Country entities.

This role will directly report to our growing Systems Integration team based in the US, with this mind, your hours of work will be adjusted to effectively work within the US and European time zones.

Position Summary:

Illumina’s Array Content and Bioinformatics group is looking for an enthusiastic and exceptional Integration Scientist to join our team supporting custom Infinium Genotyping and Methylation Arrays.

As an Integration Scientist on the Array Content & Bioinformatics team you will be in a dynamic, team-oriented environment to help create new array products and solutions used in the leading edge of research.

You will operate cross-functionally with external customers, software teams, lab services and commercial partners to translate customer requests into robust products.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and design array content for custom genotyping and methylation arrays
  • Provide presale support to customers on array content design and product compatibility, ie. meetings and/or email communication
  • Effectively commutate technical limitations, tradeoffs and risks
  • Engage with customers in the creation of custom arrays, including, but not limited to, collection of content requirements and expert use of design software and analysis tools applied in product design and optimization
  • Work across products and platforms to address customer inquiries and issues on custom and current on-market array products
  • Maintain flexibility for changing priorities and balancing multiple projects
  • Maintain organized tracking and documentation of all designs, analysis, and investigations
  • Document design process and any issues/risks encountered
  • Engage software teams to help solve complex customer requests
  • Clearly and consistently communicate progress and timelines on all projects to stake holders
  • Ensure customer delight through delivery of high quality services and products
  • Support R&D teams as subject matter expert and bring voice of customer into product development

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with array (genotyping and methylation) technologies, tools, and data analysis
  • Self-starter who can work well in a cross-functional team.
  • Creative approach to problem solving and analyses
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Familiar with Linux, Cluster Computing, Command Line Interface, Script 
  • A desire to be a part of a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment
  • Must be meticulous and detail oriented
  • Ability to operate within competing and changing priorities

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in Python and/or R
  • Prior experience working with customers
  • Project management experience
