Why this role is awesome:
This role sits at the heart of our Operations team, where data drives every decision. You’ll work closely with Ops leaders to uncover opportunities, solve real-world problems, and build data products that directly improve efficiency and performance. It’s a high-impact, hybrid role at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and business strategy — with a direct line to shaping how our customer-facing services operate and scale.
What you'll be driving:
- Build and own end-to-end analytics solutions — from data modeling (dbt, SQL) to dashboards and insights delivery (Superset, Grafana, Kepler)
- Act as the go-to data partner for Operations and Mobility Product — deeply embedded in the day-to-day, working alongside Ops and Product leaders to identify opportunities, define KPIs, and continuously improve performance through hands-on, data-driven solutions
- Focus on high-impact operational areas such as fleet readiness and uptime, maintenance performance, charging and positioning optimization, operational efficiency, and overall excellence in day-to-day execution
- Collaborate with other data teams incl. Data Platform and Data Science to all be aligned on data practices at Vay
- Design and maintain self-serve tools (dashboards, alerts, reporting interfaces) to empower Ops teams with real-time visibility and decision-making capabilities (e.g. Superset, Grafana, custom apps)
- Translate business questions into data-driven solutions, blending analytics, product thinking, and operational context
- Set up and manage lightweight operational tooling (e.g., Grafana dashboards, API integrations, observability tools)
What are we looking for:
- Proven track record of impact — you’ve shipped data products or analyses that directly improved business outcomes
- Expert-level SQL skills — you write complex, performant queries with ease
- Hands-on experience with dbt for building and maintaining data models
- Skilled in BI tools like Superset, Looker, or similar, and in delivering clear, actionable dashboards
- Comfortable working independently, from ideation to delivery — no hand-holding needed
- Experience working with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery)
- Familiarity with modern data tooling, including Fivetran, Airbyte, and reverse ETL tools like Hightouch
- Able to navigate light engineering tasks, such as working with APIs, setting up visualisation tools, or configuring integrations
- Understanding of time-series data and operational metrics, ideally with experience in observability or real-time monitoring setups

- Experience working in fast-paced environments like startups, scale-ups, or operations-heavy businesses
- Familiarity with scripting (Python, JS, etc.) to automate data tasks or build lightweight tools
- Exposure to operational domains like mobility, logistics, fleet, or marketplace
- A product mindset — you think in terms of users, feedback loops, and value, not just queries and pipelines

Vay's first commercial service is now live in Las Vegas, Nevada: By-minute rental cars. Delivered driverless.
Vay is the first company to drive a car without a person inside on public streets in Europe and the US, enabled by teledriving (e.g. remote driving) technology. Vay aims to launch a sustainable, affordable, door-to-door mobility service with remotely driven ("teledriven") cars: Teledrivers bring an electric car to the customer and pick it up after the journey is completed, eliminating the time-consuming search for a parking spot for the customer. While in the car, the customers drive themselves.
Vay sees teledriving as an alternative approach to autonomous driving and aims to gradually introduce autonomous functions in its system based on high-quality teledrive data.
Vay was founded in Berlin in 2018 by Thomas von der Ohe, Fabrizio Scelsi and Bogdan Djukic. Vay's team of 150+ people combines the best of two worlds - software & product experience from Silicon Valley and automotive hardware & safety engineering from Europe. The company has offices in Berlin and Hamburg, Germany, as well as in Las Vegas, USA. Vay raised a USD 95m Series B funding round.
