Job Description

Checkout.com is seeking a talented and motivated Underwriting Analyst II to join our growing London team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in assessing and underwriting enterprise customer applications, with a particular focus on complex and high-value merchants. You will leverage your analytical expertise to evaluate business models, assess credit exposure, conduct due diligence, and ensure compliance with scheme rules. 
How you’ll make an impact

  • Conduct in-depth business model analysis, applying evaluation techniques in line with internal policy guidelines to assess risk and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Accurately determine credit exposure for diverse merchants, adapting your approach based on individual business needs and risk profiles.
  • Analyze profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, demonstrating a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial ratios.
  • Evaluate and underwrite applications from merchants operating in high-risk industries such as travel, furniture, ticketing, events, securities, and gambling.
  • Develop detailed written and oral summaries that clearly articulate micro and macro risks, mitigating factors, and balanced recommendations for management, the Credit Risk Committee.
  • Represent the Underwriting team in customer calls and meetings alongside Sales and Account Management. Build strong relationships with internal teams including Business Development, Financial Partnerships, Risk, Compliance, and Legal.
  • Effectively prioritize, own, and resolve escalated issues with a sense of urgency and a customer-centric approach.
  • Actively participate in operational improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental projects aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.


Qualifications

What we’re looking for: 

  • 4+ years of experience in merchant underwriting, credit analysis, or a similar role within the payments industry.
  • Proven ability to assess business models, identify credit risk exposure, and analyse financial statements.
  • Familiarity with underwriting high-risk lines of business, including travel, furniture, ticketing, events, securities, and gambling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
  • Understanding of Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Know Your Customer (KYC), and Know Your Business (KYB) regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage escalations and provide timely solutions to complex problems.
  • A collaborative and customer-focused approach, with a strong commitment to building a positive and productive team environment.
