The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.
This position is responsible for participating in the planning and development/synthesis of sensor algorithm for new product launches and on-market products. The planning portion includes coordinating tasks with other team members and managing task priorities. This individual will participate in system level design documentation and requirements specification. They will provides specialized functions such as algorithm development, user interface development, and data analysis methodology. The ideal candidate develops and follows specialized procedures in executing experiments, evaluation and documentation of results. Lastly, they will develop working relationships with cross functional groups and senior/executive management.
This is a fully on-site role in Alameda, CA.
What you’ll work on
- Participate in algorithm development synthesis incorporating mathematical models and in optimizing design processes.
- Participate in planning of sensor algorithm development activities in relation to project timelines.
- Participate in product definition, system architecture, requirements writing, requirements management, requirements analysis, risk analysis, hazard analysis, product test and evaluation, System V & V, and/or design control documentation.
- Collect, organize, analyze, and document test results.
- Participate in integration of analytical and performance related elements with software, hardware, and electronics system components.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in an engineering or scientific discipline.
- Masters degree or PhD ideal. 8 yrs product development experience in Engineering or physical science.
- Experience credit for advanced degrees beyond BS (2 years for Masters; 4 years for Doctorate).
- Good working knowledge of Matlab.
- Solid knowledge of general engineering/science principles.
- Experience with algorithm development and planning for sensor systems through regulatory clearance or approval.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the medical device space; ideally within diabetes or metabolic disease.
- Experience prototyping algorithm ideas in Matlab and synthesizing the final algorithm for implementation in embedded systems
- Demonstrated prior contributions in synthesizing algorithm for real-time sensor systems (especially continuous glucose monitoring) and involvement in algorithm development support towards regulatory clearance of sensor products.
- Signal processing or equivalent discipline that operates on real-time signal to create an estimate robust from outliers, system faults, and various uncertainties

The base pay for this position is
$125,700.00 – $251,500.00
