The Role

The Aircraft Maintenance Intern reports to the Director of Aircraft Maintenance and will assist with basic maintenance activities, aircraft operations support, inventory organization, and documentation. This internship is designed to provide valuable hands-on experience in general aviation and experimental aircraft systems, with a strong emphasis on learning and professional development.

Interns will gain exposure to Lycoming engines, avionics systems, fabrication techniques, FAA regulatory compliance, and real-world maintenance practices — all under close supervision and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities under the direct supervision of licensed A&P mechanics.

  • Support troubleshooting and minor repairs on airframes, engines, and systems, including Lycoming and other general aviation engines.

  • Participate in pre-flight and post-flight inspections and basic servicing tasks.

  • Shadow and assist with troubleshooting avionics and electrical systems.

  • Learn about avionics platforms such as Garmin, Dynon, and Avidyne through hands-on observation and simple tasks.

  • Support aircraft modifications, structural repairs, and composite work with guidance.

  • Assist with sheet metal fabrication and experimental aircraft builds under close supervision.

  • Help track maintenance schedules and project timelines.

  • Assist in planning aircraft readiness with the maintenance team.

  • Help update aircraft logbooks, work orders, and digital records.

  • Assist with tracking service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and maintenance schedules.

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining the tool inventory and calibration tracking system.

  • Interns are not required to bring any personal tools.

Experience, Skills, and Required Qualifications

  • Strong interest in aircraft maintenance and aviation technology.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn.

  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical manuals and schematics (training provided).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is a plus.

  • Commitment to safe work practices and regulatory compliance.

  • Current or recent aircraft maintenance background

  • Qualified candidates must have the ability to obtain a security clearance. This requires U.S. Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an FAA-approved A&P program or aviation maintenance training program.

  • Prior hands-on experience with general aviation or experimental aircraft (school, hobbyist, or volunteer experience welcome).

  • Exposure to Lycoming, Continental, Rotax, or turbine engines is a plus.

  • Familiarity with avionics platforms like Garmin, Dynon, or Avidyne is helpful but not required.

  • Interest in composite fabrication and sheet metal work.

  • Understanding of FAA regulations (training provided).
