The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) drives integration of Aerospace's strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. EED spans the capability lifecycle from concept and architecture design to performance assessment to application of space-enabled mission effects.
As a member of the Cross-Mission Effectiveness Department (CMED), you will provide technical capabilities to support our customers in modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) of space, air, and ground-based systems of systems to investigate architecture and concept of operations (CONOPS) performance in nominal and contested operating environments. MS&A focus areas include agent-based modeling, red vs blue simulations, military utility and capability drawdown, killchain effectiveness, enterprise architecture resiliency, and command and control (C2) evaluation. We support a variety of customers with diverse program portfolios, and we are looking for curious and innovative teammates to help us address our customers' hardest problems!
This unique position with CMED will be directly supporting the Office of the Director, Department of the Air Force, Studies and Analysis (SAF/SA) full-time while reporting to CMED management.
Work Model:
This is a full-time position primarily located at the Pentagon offering a hybrid work model combining regular onsite workdays at the Pentagon, onsite workdays at our Chantilly, VA offices, and remote (telework) flexibility as customer needs allow. Relocation assistance is available.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) models and scenarios supporting SAF/SA priorities.
  • Work side-by-side with the government customer and interface with senior government leaders, contractors, other government agencies, Aerospace program offices, and the Aerospace Engineering and Technical Group (ETG) to address issues and provide the customer with the best available technical analyses and recommendations.
  • Independently translate customer needs into project objectives and instructions for ETG analysts and developers, assemble and lead multi-disciplinary technical teams, track team performance, and review team products for quality and accuracy.
  • Oversee AFSIM project management, coordinate AFSIM ETG efforts, and aggregate and interpret results to inform customer decisions.
  • Develop and present timely and technically-accurate presentations and reports.
  • Occasionally support CMED technical efforts and mentor CMED junior staff.
  • Occasionally travel domestically as required.


What You Need to be Successful - Engineering Specialist - Modeling & Simulation Engineering
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in in engineering (aerospace, astronautical, mechanical, or software), computer science, physics, operations research, or closely related technical field from an accredited school.
  • 8 years of progressively more responsible engineering experience.
  • Proficiency with the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Experience with one or more software languages that may include Python, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Experience leading a team to accomplish an objective.
  • Ability to work on dynamic assignments and adapt to changing customer expectations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective oral and written communication skills
  • Current Top Secret Clearance.


In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for Senior Engineering Specialist are:

  • 12 years of progressively more responsible engineering experience.


How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • An advanced degree in applicable STEM areas or other relevant disciplines.
  • Proficiency in astrodynamics.
  • Knowledge in two or more of the following: communications infrastructure, command and control (C2), space surveillance, space protection, spacecraft ground systems, multi-phenomenology remote sensing techniques, or space-driven kill-chains.
  • Experience modeling the space domain in AFSIM and/or integrating external tools with AFSIM.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense and Department of the Air Force business practices and programs.
  • Experience in briefing senior government leaders.
  • Current Top Secret Clearance with SCI access, polygraph, and special programs access.
