JOB SUMMARY
Manages the workload and performance of an actuarial team. Manages and leads multiple special projects. Plans and prioritizes team’s work in accordance with broader department objectives and priorities. Oversees the integrity of the actuarial work product. Executes strategies and the direction for the department, and ensures team projects, goals, and objectives support the short-term strategy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Guides team through complex work issues and answers questions.

Collaborates with team members to establish performance goals and monitors status.

Conducts reviews and provides coaching. Interviews, hires, and recommends salary adjustments for team members.

Provides training for team and encourages continuing education.

Answers questions and guides team through difficult situations.

Trains and mentors team members on advanced technical skills and knowledge and provides technical guidance to the team.

Ensures that actuarial team members are developing knowledge on the best practices associated with assigned areas so that the team continues to be cross functional with their knowledge.

Manages and leads multiple special projects, such as oversees projects supporting regional pricing strategies and enhances and improves current actuarial techniques, sets the vision and strategy for pricing, updates the loss trend calculation algorithm, and oversees branch business planning and enterprise financial projections.

Effectively plans and prioritizes team’s work in accordance with broader department objectives and priorities.

Oversees the integrity of the actuarial work product.

Finds and implements the vision of technical progression of the line of business and business area, including using deep knowledge expertise to compile all research, making the decision to change the process, and implementing the change.

Executes strategies and the direction for the department.

Ensures team projects, goals, and objectives support the short-term strategy.

Serves as subject matter expert for any special requests within pricing, including target loss ratio development, loss trend analysis, portfolio premium adequacy analysis, forecasting, and rate compare enhancement and maintenance decisions.

Executes incorporation of the latest actuarial techniques into pricing, and modeling such as new rating algorithms, new rating variables, advanced modeling techniques.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The education and experience below are required for the job unless labelled as preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or math

Seven years of actuarial experience

FCAS designation or equivalent relevant experience

Prior supervisory or managerial experience

Additional experience, exams or graduate level coursework may be considered in meeting the requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Excellent knowledge of statistics, probability, and computer programming

Deep subject matter expert in Pricing, Reserving, or Predictive Modeling or other technical actuarial area: Catastrophe Model, the Economic Capital Model and Assumed Reinsurance

Advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, and Word

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either the $138,330 to $198,267 range or the $152,515 to $218,599 range. A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
