Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will be part of a tight knit team charged with supporting development and acquisition programs for the Minuteman III System Program Office in the Ground Mechanical Division. You will assist the government customer in the review and assessment of the design, documentation, architecture, on-site program reviews, and engineering products to meet acquisition requirements and timelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an experience mechanical engineer, you will provide Advisory and Assistance Support to the customer, being the focal point for BAE systems within the Ground Mechanical Division. The position requires the mechanical engineer to work with minimal direction, able to determine objectives and approaches to assignments, and be virtually self-supervisory.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Oversight and Support
• Systems Engineering: Conduct systems engineering analysis to ensure the integration and functionality of the ICBM weapon system components.
• Sustaining Engineering: Provide technical support for the maintenance and sustainment of the ICBM weapon system, ensuring operational readiness.
• Technical Orders: Prepare and update Engineering Orders, Time Compliant Technical Orders (TCTO), and Technical Orders (TO) in accordance with relevant standards and guidelines.
• Interpretation: Accurately interpret technical drawings to understand the design and specifications of components and systems.
• Verification: Verify that technical drawings meet the required standards and specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Communication: Communicate effectively with other engineers, designers, and stakeholders to clarify and resolve any ambiguities or discrepancies in the drawings.
• Documentation: Maintain and update technical drawings as necessary, ensuring that all changes are documented and communicated to relevant parties.
• Compliance: Ensure that all technical drawings comply with relevant industry standards, guidelines, and regulations.
Risk Management
• Risk Assessment: Conduct initial assessments to determine if proposals merit further review and identify potential risks.
• Risk Handling: Develop and implement risk handling strategies (mitigate, monitor, transfer, or accept) in coordination with the Risk Program Manager (PM) and Risk Engineer (EN).
• Working Group Participation: Participate in working groups with contractor experts and personnel from other subsystems and specialty engineering areas to address identified risks.
Project Coordination and Support
• Integrated Product Teams (IPTs): Collaborate with IPTs to support the planning and execution of program activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
• Pre-Coordination Meetings: Support pre-coordination meetings from a technical/OSS&E perspective, ensuring all technical aspects are addressed.
• Review and Approval: Review and incorporate comments from the Engineering Team Lead and other reviewers, ensuring all documentation meets the required standards.
Quality Assurance
• Quality Assurance Program: Develop and implement a Quality Assurance Program Plan to monitor and evaluate the quality of subsystem contractor programs.
• Compliance Monitoring: Ensure compliance with DoD 5000 series Directives and Instructions, and other relevant standards and guidelines.
Logistics and Sustainment
• Logistics Support Analysis: Perform logistics support analysis to ensure effective logistics planning and execution in support of the ICBM weapon system.
• IUID Implementation: Support the implementation of Item Unique Identification (IUID) in the ICBM weapon system, including identifying items requiring IUID labels and updating the IUID implementation plan.
Customer Relations and Communication
• Customer Support: Provide technical support and expertise to internal and external customers, addressing any technical issues or concerns promptly.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and submit technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.
Training and Knowledge Transfer
• Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge and expertise to other team members and stakeholders, ensuring continuity and sustainability of the ICBM weapon system.
• Training Programs: Develop and conduct training programs to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of team members and stakeholders.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS/MS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 7 years directly related experience (5 with MS degree).
- At least 3 years responsibility in providing technical leadership.
- Proven experience in cross program communication and collaboration.
- Demonstrates proactive initiative in identifying and addressing challenges, consistently driving projects forward with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office.
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices related to the specific field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, systems engineering).
- High level of attention to detail to identify and address any errors or inconsistencies in technical drawings.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex technical information and apply it to practical applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other relevant tools for creating and modifying technical drawings.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience as an aerospace/mechanical engineer on a missile system or complex weapon system (especially ACAT III program or ICBM-related experience).
- Ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical audience. Knowledge of systems engineering process.
- Current Secret Clearance or higher.
- Knowledge or previous experience with Air Force operation, acquisitions and sustainment programs.
- Experience with stakeholder integration.
- Proven experience with regulatory and statuary documentation requirements.
- Experience being responsible for deliverables to the government and accountable for the technical quality, content and results of those deliverables.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $94728 - $161038
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
