Role Value Proposition:
The Accounting Consultant - Regulatory Reporting role on the MetLife Holdings Controller's Team provides a challenging opportunity for a motivated individual to gain experience in preparing and analyzing U.S. GAAP basis financial statements for FINRA and SEC filings. The Accounting Consultant will forge partnerships with other areas, including Controllers, Financial Planning & Analysis, Commissions, Investments, Legal, Compliance and Financial Operations while staying current on accounting and compliance rules affecting the Broker Dealers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on timely and accurate reporting of financial results for two Broker Dealer Companies (Annual GAAP Audits, Quarterly External Filings and Monthly Internal Filings);
- Responsible for maintaining/upgrading/validating financial workbook activity and ensuring controls work properly;
- Set up team calendars, track deliverables and establish/update needed internal review meetings;
- Prepare accurate analytics on significant balance sheet and income statement line variances;
- Complete SOX Controls and Balance Sheet Certifications;
- Lead on IT projects for team and communicate critical updates;
- Coordination of comments/questions received on the filings with external auditors and internal partners;
- Monitor bank account activity on daily basis and prepares necessary accounting for transactions;
- Assist with completing board slides and other presentations;
- Complete required GAAP and STAT footnotes for quarterly and annual filings;
- Review of the ledger and subsequent follow up with groups that need to do additional entries
- Research accounting rules and regulations to make recommendations regarding company policy
- Continuously monitor, recommend, and implement process improvement initiatives to increase effectiveness and productivity
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
- 5+ years' experience in financial reporting and analytics role
- Must have ability to analyze data, problem solve complicated transactions and assess critical path
- Ability to plan, track, multi-task, prioritize responsibilities with team
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting and reporting as it relates to financial companies;
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to v-lookups, h-lookups, sumifs, links, and pivot tables
- Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Cash reconciliation experience
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Broker Dealer accounting and reporting concepts, principles, and reporting
- Experience with Workiva (Wdesk), Peoplesoft and Hyperion Financial Management
- Ability to modify, develop and improve procedures and policies to meet reporting needs/requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience
- FINRA Series 27 license holder or willing to obtain
The salary range for applicants for this position is $76,500 - $117,200.
