This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s Corporate Office locations in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Baker’s Bay is seeking a full-time, year-round Accountant to join the Finance and Accounting Department.

Job Summary:

The Accountant handles the Club’s accounting tasks, procedures and maintains a healthy financial profile ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local principles. Prepares and reviews financial documents, reports, and statements. Oversees all accounting procedures (e.g., tax returns, month-end closures, budgeting) and advises on general financial matters. Manages financial reports, records, and accounts. Conducts billing processes and maintains the general ledger.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Club Controller in accounting-related responsibilities.
  • Daily recording activities, month-end closing and the implementation of proper internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements.
  • Executes month-end responsibilities for the Club, Marina and Utility as well as other areas as needed; prepares and posts journal entries, prepares Floqast reconciliations and assists with Club account reconciliations as needed
  • Prepares and completes audit work papers for review by the Club Controller
  • Prepares and completes any tax workpapers requested by the Discovery Tax team and reviewed by the Controller
  • Reviews and assists with accounts receivable and/or accounts payable accounting for operating entities as needed
  • Interfaces with various departments and provides support as needed
  • Assists Club Operations with F&B inventory control and cost reporting exercises.
  • Works effectively with the operational staff to resolve accounting/finance related issues.
  • Invoice processing, signature routing and entry into A/P module.
  • Produces payable checks, makes copies, run registers, verifies and prints details if necessary.
  • Manages reconciliation of Accounts Payable between General Ledger and Subsidiary Ledger.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work-related skill, knowledge and experience is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, preferred.
  • Proficiency in software applications Timberline and Jonas preferred.
  • Similar combination of education and experience.
  • Adheres to the Discovery Land Company’s Projects policies and procedures.
  • Performs duties as workload necessitates.
  • Maintains a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with all employees, supervisors, managers & Accounting team.
  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Consistently reports to work on time prepared to perform duties of position.
  • Meets departmental productivity, organization, and consistency standards.
  • Complies with laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Performs work in a safe and high-quality manner.
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and desire to work in fast-paced environment.
