Your Responsibilities
As an Engineer Product II for John Deere in Waterloo, IA, you will:
- Execute high-level applications to more complex problems;
- Analyze assignments and determine engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for complex problems or projects of moderate scope;
- Produce and evaluate possible design solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance based on a specialized knowledge of Deere's proprietary and highly customized engineering applications;
- Compile and furnish necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document design solutions required for the building of prototypes and the adoption of designs with possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management, and supplier personnel;
- Provide technical support to marketing, manufacturing, quality, and supply management organizations; develop and/or execute tests and analysis plans for product verification and validation; and apply a specialized knowledge of company products, policies and practices to provide economies through the standardization of parts and products.
- Resolve product-line base difficult technical issues whether within the company or with outside suppliers.
- Plans, coordinates, performs product design, testing and/or analysis work for a complete project of broad scope or for a portion or a sub-system of a major and diverse project.
- Operates in a team environment and may act as lead person, providing technical information and design solutions.
- Provides technical consultation and a knowledge base.
- Expert user of critical technologies and develops new applications of technology for product development.
- Identifies the root cause of an issue, develops a corrective action plan and leads a cross functional team of peers through issue resolution, escalating issues that materially impact the schedule and/or budget, creates issues lists with due dates and deliverables.
- Identifies critical path issues and resultant impact to the schedule;
- Develops and executes action plans for resolution.
- Identifies, analyzes, and prioritizes risks to schedule and/or budget, and develops and mitigation plans.
- Oversees project(s) execution, providing direction and operating to the set schedule financial targets, function and performance, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.
- Follows the schedule to ensure that changes are limited, and the financial and customer implications are fully understood and communicated to the appropriate level of leadership.
- Identifies and addresses issues and risks to protect the schedule, financials, and quality goals. Ensure the final product meets defined financial targets.
- Delivers product manufacturability and serviceability to Deere's standards for functional performance, reliability, durability, and quality at all factories.
- Develops a clear understanding of customer and market requirements to ensure that the final product meets or exceeds the defined customer satisfaction goals.
- Delivers prompt communications, ensuring that all stakeholders and team members are informed of key program metrics, milestones, and critical issues, while balancing the content.
- Gains a thorough understanding of customer requirements and program scope and can differentiate between feature requests, requirements, and engineering changes.
- Understands and communicates potential scope changes in a timely manner, along with the impact of those changes to ensure clear and effective business decisions are made.
- Ensures that the team utilizes the Enterprise Product Delivery Process (EPDP) (or other approved program management process), including phase reviews, review of critical gates, and leadership approval prior to advancing to the next phase.
- Up to 15% domestic and international travel required. Up to 20% remote work allowed. Must live within normal commuting distance of the worksite.
What Skills You Need
- 3 years of experience in analyze warranty claims and examine failed parts to conduct root cause analysis by using 8D cause, Six Sigma techniques, capability studies, experiment design, process mapping and effect diagrams to solve complex engineering problems and optimize designs
- 1 year of experience with computer aided design systems, including PDMLink, SAP, Windchill and Creo, to manage and create 3D models and 2D drawings to identify solutions and optimize designs for function and value
- 3 years of experience in diesel engine design, application, performance or integration experiences while working with global teams and a multidisciplinary team environment
- 1 year of experience with Systems Engineering methodology, Agile methodology, artifacts, and practices to drive sustainable project implementation
- 3 years of experience in provide technical experience in product engineering, concepts, and design of products by applying engineering principles, theory, and practice
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field plus 3 years related experience.
