Your Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer for John Deere in East Moline, IL, you will:

  • Design and architect software for various planter and air seeding programs;
  • Perform product design, development, and testing for a module in Agile Development methodology by using specialized domain knowledge, evaluate the possible design change to improve the quality, performance and reduce cost;
  • Work with System Engineers, Module Engineers, Delivery supervisors and other team members in Seeding and Planter requirement definition;
  • Develop the High-Level and Low-level display and control logic, CAN Communication and Diagnostics;
  • Develop and maintain diagnostics for on-vehicle ethernet networks, and debug issues as they arise;
  • Develop UI and Business logic using ISO BUS VT and QT for John Deere Seeding and Planter Display applications;
  • Perform peer reviews of deliverables and make sure contributors to repository maintain coding standards and catch defect escaping at review stage;
  • Work with other teams/team members to design and coordinate development of Unit and Integration Test Plans;
  • Develop interfaces with a moderate fidelity plant model for simulation of response/stability testing;
  • Develop automated scripts using John Deere's in-house tools for Seeding and Planting systems;
  • Perform Unit and Integration testing using google tests, Software in Loop, Model in Loop and Hardware in Loop testing;
  • Work on defect fixes and perform root cause analysis;
  • Debug CAN logs and display logs from field, identify root cause, implement fix, perform testing, and deliver software in timely manner;
  • As a Scrum team member, I participate in Backlog Grooming, Sprint, PSI planning, Stand-Up, Demos, and Sprint Retrospective analysis meetings;
  • Work with team members to document major, minor subsystems and calibrations;
  • Support PV&V team in the field testing, investigate functionality issues, or test new functionality on Vehicle;
  • Perform the Software Release activities.
  • Up to 10% domestic travel required. Must live within normal commuting distance of the worksite. Up to 20% remote work allowed.


What Skills You Need

  • 5 years of experience in proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, Embedded C, SQL, MATLAB, CAN communication protocol, J1939 standards and Vector tools. to analyze logs from the field and vehicles to investigate issues
  • 5 years of experience in detailed requirement Analysis, Design and Development of the model according to the system requirement
  • 5 years of experience in proficiency in Developing embedded systems software and display application development tailored for agricultural machinery and control systems
  • 3 years of experience in developing algorithms for variable rate planting, seed spacing, depth control and precision fertilizer application
  • 5 years of experience in proficiency in designing and architecting scalable and high-performance systems while developing and integrating APIs
  • 5 years of knowledge of test frameworks and practices including unit testing, integration testing, HIL/SIL testing, and machine testing
  • 5 years of experience in planning, estimation, execution and delivery of software
  • 3 years of experience in proficiency with Git/GitHub and other version control tools to develop functional and efficient software solutions


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field plus 5 years related experience.
