Department Summary:

GenMark Diagnostics (a member of the Roche Group) is a leading provider of multiplex molecular diagnostic solutions designed to enhance patient care, improve key quality metrics, and reduce the total cost-of-care. GenMark’s cobas® eplex: The True Sample-to-Answer Solution™ is designed to optimize laboratory efficiency and address a broad range of infectious disease testing needs, including respiratory and bloodstream infections.

GenMark’s Systems Engineering team focuses on complex challenges where hardware, electrical, software and consumable development meet for state of the art multiplex molecular diagnostic solutions. The primary responsibilities of this role will include driving key studies for the success of our products while developing technical and theoretical understandings important for new product development and product improvement. With guidance, you will analyze and brainstorm approaches to solve problems and find solutions. 

This internship position is located in Carlsbad California, on-site.  

The Opportunity:

  • Designing experimental approaches and protocols

  • Conducting and monitoring laboratory experiments

  • Analyzing experimental results and data 

Program Highlights:

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required) 

Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:

- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Preferred Majors: 

- Systems Engineering

- Biomedical Engineering / Bioengineering

- Any other engineering or scientific major

Preferred skills: 

  • Engineering background

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment

  • Equipment troubleshooting

  • Engineering problem solving

  • Data analysis

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Courses or experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Courses or experience in experimental design.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of  STATE is $22.00-$43.00 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
