Your Role:
This internship provides a tremendous opportunity to gain daily, hands on experience in industrial science, while also contributing to SpringWorks’ Structural Biology goals. The Intern will be mentored and work directly with members of the Drug Discovery Structural Biology team and will get experience with a variety of activities, including protein expression and purification, biophysical assays and crystallization of some of our discovery protein targets. The selected intern will have abundant and daily mentored opportunities to contribute to these important and required drug discovery activities.
Location Classification – Lab-Based:
This role will be required to work on site 5 days a week as the majority of the work will be conducted in our laboratory facility.. #LI-Onsite
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare cell cultures of cloned constructs and perform scaled up expression
- Harvest cell cultures, prepare cell lysates and purify proteins
- Use state of the art platforms to perform biophysical or biochemical assays
- Use state of the art lab automation to crystallize proteins
- Have a great opportunity to experience industrial life science research
- Engage fellow SpringWorkers and discuss and examine career paths
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Role Requirements:
- Education: Candidates pursuing biology, chemistry, biochemistry or biophysics program degrees are encouraged to apply. Preferred applicants will be rising seniors, first year graduate students or stand out rising juniors from an accredited U.S. college or university before beginning the internship
- Applicants should have at least completed core science and some upper-level classroom and laboratory course work in molecular biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry and related science and math courses
- Candidates equipped with the necessary science classroom and bench skills will enjoy a more complete and highly immersive internship
- Applicant has accrued upper-level classroom hours and developed some wet laboratory skills
- Candidate has a good understanding and working knowledge of cell and molecular biology, cloning, cell culture, organic and biochemistry and chemical calculations
- Excellent written, oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with peers on a technical level
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage and complete several ongoing tasks
- Complete the assigned Capstone Project that is built around the essential duties and responsibilities
- Present the Capstone Project to the research staff towards the end of the internship
Standard Requirements for all intern positions:
- Ability to complete the entire 10-week program (from June 2, 2025 to August 8, 2025) and commit to 40 hours per week
- Applicants must be available to work onsite weekly a minimum of 2 days/5 days for onsite positions.
- Final presentation to manager & department team members at the end of the 10-week program (mandatory).
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the program.
- Applicants currently enrolled in an accredited college/university for undergraduate, graduate or PharmD program. Must have completed at least two semesters at an accredited U.S. college or university before the start of the program.
- Applicants must attend a school in a U.S. state or territory and be eligible to work in the United States.
- Applicants must have a strong desire to pursue a career in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology field post-graduation.
- Applicants must meet the minimum requirements of the role, both in Education (BS/MS/PharmD/Ph.D/etc.) and experience.
- Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Compensation & Benefits:
The expected hourly rate for this position is $29.00/hour.
