Role of the Portfolio Strategy Research Associate
Dodge & Cox is looking to hire for its Quantitative Analysis and Data Science (QUADS) team. The Research Associate (RA) will work directly with senior members of our investment teams to assist with quantitative research in our Fixed Income department. This position would be a good fit for those pursuing a longer-term career in financial data science and/or fixed income investing.
Primary responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
- Answering data-driven research questions posed by our investment committees
- Running analytics to support investment decision-making and risk management (risk/attribution models, portfolio simulations)
- Building and improving asset allocation models
- Developing and maintaining dashboards
- Assisting with custom analysis when large datasets or detailed quantitative work is required
- Assisting with managing a growing Python- and Azure-powered ecosystem for quantitative work
- Helping the firm explore applications for machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI)
The work above will be leveraged across the Fixed Income department and will provide the RA with exposure to investment professionals and senior management across the firm. This is a two-to-four-year position, after which candidates return to school or pursue other professional opportunities.
Qualifications
Dodge & Cox targets candidates with high levels of academic and professional achievement, in addition to leadership ability and interpersonal skills.
Candidates should have:
- Programming experience (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SQL); experience with business intelligence tools such as Tableau or PowerBI, version control (git), and cloud computing (Snowflake, Azure, AWS, etc.) are a plus
- An excellent academic record with coursework in economics, probability, statistics, multivariable calculus, and linear algebra
- Strong undergraduate preparation, or at least 1-3 years of postgraduate preparation (in industry or gaining a more advanced degree)
- Demonstrated interest in financial markets and investing
- A conscientious approach toward data analysis to ensure that results are always produced to the highest standards
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; familiarity with Bloomberg preferred
- Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
Requirements
- Dodge & Cox has a 4:1 hybrid work model, and all Dodge & Cox employees are required to be in their assigned office as noted in the job posting Monday - Thursday each week, with the option to work remotely on Friday.
The salary range for this position is $155k - $180k.The listed pay scale denotes only the pay range of the base salary and does not include discretionary bonus compensation, which may make up an important portion of the total remuneration. Dodge & Cox encourages applicants to consider the value of the many competitive benefits it offers, including coverage of 100% of all healthcare premiums for employees and their families and fully funding a retirement plan at 25% of the total compensation to the IRS limit.
