Automotive manufacturer General Motors announced a new executive appointment that aligns with the company’s goal of building safer, smarter and lower emission vehicles. Barak Turovsky joins the company in the newly created role of chief artificial intelligence officer, according to recent reporting from Reuters.
Turovsky formerly served as the vice president of AI at Cisco before joining the GM team. Earlier in his career, he worked at Google as the director and head of product for the company’s language AI team, leading its natural language understanding product organization as well as product management to incorporate AI into Google’s search function, ads, translations and other products.
In his new role at GM, Turovsky will join the software and services engineering team to work on integrating AI software capabilities into the company’s vehicles. Additionally, GM has leveraged AI for projects including setting locations for EV chargers, improving vehicle ordering processes for dealerships and streamlining manufacturing processes.
