Education curriculum and services giant Edmentum has announced the acquisition of Calvert Education Services this week. This deal combines Calvert’s learning solutions and virtual K-8 academy with Edmentum’s Plato Courseware, strengthening the company’s K-12 digital curriculum offerings.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Calvert Education Services into the Edmentum family. Calvert’s history as a forerunner in blended learning complements our 60+ year mission of empowering educators through innovation and a deep commitment to new school models,” said Jamie Candee, Edmentum’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

“As schools evolve their virtual and blended learning offerings, this acquisition fills an important need to support elementary learners in an environment that is most conducive to their learning modality. Our K-12 instructional services will serve as a national model for ensuring all students have equitable opportunities to learn,” Candee added.

As a leader in virtual and blended learning solutions with particular appeal to homeschoolers and others educators in nontraditional learning environments, Calvert Education Services provides digital resources, step-by-step lesson plans, assessments and progress tracking tools. K-12 students and their parents will be able to access these and more via Edmentum’s EdOptions Academy starting in the 2019-2020 school year.

“For years, Calvert has specialized in nontraditional learning opportunities for students and now we are doing so with an engaging digital-first experience designed for schools,” said Steve Gross, Calvert Education Services chief executive officer, in a statement. “Together, Edmentum and Calvert will continue that mission in schools, both in the US and around the world.”
