Job Description Summary
Position Objective:
The position is that of VP, Corporate Controller for Sunbelt Rentals (“the Company”). Sunbelt Rentals’ current parent company, Ashtead Group plc, is a $10bn revenue UK FTSE 50 publicly listed company which has recently announced its intention to relist on the NYSE and rebrand as Sunbelt Rentals. Sunbelt Rentals and is the world’s second largest equipment rental group serving principally the US, Canada and the UK. The Company operates through over 1,500 rental stores across our markets and employs over 25,000 people, renting a full range of construction and industrial equipment across a wide variety of applications to a diverse customer base. Our equipment can be used to lift, power, generate, move, dig, compact, drill, support, scrub, pump, direct, heat and ventilate - whatever is required. Our objective is to deliver sustainable value and above average performance across the economic cycle, thereby extending our industry-leading position and delivering superior total returns for shareholders.
This newly created role will be based in our US headquarters in Fort Mill, SC and provides an opportunity to play a key role in building the finance function required as a US listed business, overseeing the internal reporting, external reporting and field controller activities.
The role will report to the SVP, Global Finance Transformation and will have significant interaction with senior executive management across the Company’s leadership team based in Fort Mill, in addition to the finance and wider business teams across the US, Canada and the UK.
Position Responsibilities:
General responsibilities
- Overview of accounting functions, including external reporting, internal reporting and field controllers
- Responsible for operation and development of more junior team members
- Responsible for ensuring reliability and quality of financial information prepared by the Group finance team
- Oversee, implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data
- Responsible for accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and SEC regulations
- Responsible for coordinating and managing external audits, liaising with auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit process
- Assisting with responding to ad hoc Board and Audit Committee requests and reporting
Reporting
- Responsible for overseeing the preparation of the Group’s consolidated financial reporting for internal and external purposes
- Oversight of the external reporting team responsible for the preparation of the financial disclosures for the Group’s 10-Q and 10-K
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate assessment of key areas of accounting judgement in preparing Group’s consolidated financial statements (e.g. impairment analysis, acquisition accounting, etc.), working with the general accounting team
- Responsible for ensuring maintenance of Group accounting policies, supported by the external reporting team, in monitoring areas of accounting development and assessing their impact on the Group
- Preparation of routine reporting to the Audit Committee on key judgements
- Support the preparation and review of material for capital markets events, ensuring the quality and consistency of financial analysis
Special projects
- Taking a lead on management and co-ordination of special projects requiring support from finance, ensuring high quality financial information
- Involvement in any corporate actions
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- CPA qualified with ‘Big 4’ public accounting experience (20+ years' experience)
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, PCAOB standards, and SEC reporting requirements
- Team player with a strong technical background, ability to develop junior staff and experience of financial reporting under US GAAP and a SOX controls environment
- An individual who is looking for a challenging role within a dynamic team environment
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Organization and communication skills
Physical Demands:
Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job. Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind, or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work.
