TEGNA is seeking a strategic and innovative Statewide Digital Content Director to oversee digital content operations for five TEGNA stations in Texas:
- 6News/KCEN, the NBC affiliate serving Waco-Temple-Killeen
- 12NewsNow/KBMT, the ABC and NBC affiliates serving Beaumont-Port Arthur
- CBS19/KYTX, the CBS affiliate serving Tyler-Longview
- NewsWest 9/KWES, the NBC affiliate serving Midland-Odessa
- Fox West Texas/KIDY/KXVA, the FOX affiliate serving Abilene-San Angelo
This role will initially report to the Texas Regional Digital Director with a dotted line to the five market general managers. This Texas Digital Content Director will work as a peer to TEGNA digital directors in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
The person in this visionary role will drive our commitment to revolutionizing local journalism and serve as the bridge among several Texas media markets, advancing TEGNA’s mission of providing impactful and quality journalism across digital and streaming platforms.
As the Director of Digital Content, you will collaborate with multiple teams to develop and implement a digital content strategy that will expand our reach and strengthen audience engagement. You will lead a cohesive, cross-platform approach to content creation and distribution, working closely with station and newsroom leaders to innovate and deliver a multi-platform vision tailored to our audience's evolving needs.

This person would ideally be located in Temple, Texas, but we may also consider candidates open to living in Austin, Texas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Digital Vision: Manage digital content teams across multiple stations, setting and overseeing strategic goals to drive audience growth, engagement, and high-quality storytelling on all digital platforms, including web, mobile, apps, OTT, and social media.
- Drive Statewide Innovation: Champion a culture of innovation, inspiring teams to explore and implement new storytelling formats and technologies that cater to the dynamic needs of our digital and streaming audiences.
- Win on Streaming Platforms: Foster a streaming-first mentality across all departments in multiple newsrooms. Define a streaming vision and develop a workflow for successful execution of the strategy.
- Cross-Station Collaboration: Partner with functional leaders at multiple stations to develop and sustain a unified, statewide digital content strategy that aligns with TEGNA’s mission and values.
- Data-Informed Decisions: Leverage data and analytics to inform editorial and strategic decisions, ensuring that content is optimized for audience engagement and measurable impact across all platforms.
- Audience-Centric Content: Guide teams to produce unique, engaging, and shareable content that resonates with all of the communities we cover across Texas.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Train, coach, and mentor digital content staff across multiple stations, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Uphold the highest standards of journalistic ethics and hold teams accountable for maintaining TEGNA’s editorial values.
- Travel: Given the coverage area of this position, travel will be required. The expectation is a minimum of five days monthly spent on the ground at the other Texas stations. Stations will cover expenses for travel.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a digital director in TV or a digitally-savvy industry, with a track record of growing streaming reach and audience engagement across multiple platforms.
- Minimum of two years as a team leader with multiple direct reports. This includes experience with recruitment, training, performance management, critical conversations, and building a high-performance team.
- Strong editorial judgment and experience driving digital content strategy with an emphasis on ethical and impactful journalism.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience building an inclusive workplace culture.
- History of introducing new concepts across multiple departments while cultivating a culture of innovation.
- Expert knowledge of SEO best practices, audience analytics tools, and digital content management systems.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and manage live, breaking news situations with poise and precision.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Outstanding commitment to journalism ethics.
- Familiarity with the markets we cover in Texas is a plus.
