KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Test and repair payment devices
  • Loading keys onto payment devices
  • Load software onto payment devices
  • Maintain acceptable quality standards as per repair processes
  • Adhere to housekeeping and health and safety requirements
  • Adhere to service level agreements set out for the repairing of devices
  • Adhere to the agreed total amount of repairs per day and ensure that monthly stats are in line with the agreed totals.

Terminal Repairs

1. Initiating the Testing and Repair Process

  • Scan the serial number of the payment terminal to register it in the system and initiate the repair process.

2. Reviewing Repair History and Warranty Status

  •  Access the ERP system (Translution Repair System) to check the terminal’s repair history.
  •  Verify whether the terminal is still under warranty or if it requires out-of-warranty servicing.

3. Conducting Initial Visual Inspection

  • Perform an external and internal visual inspection to identify any visible damage or irregularities.
  • Look for cracks, loose components, or signs of wear and tear that could indicate underlying issues.

4. Powering Up and Running Diagnostic Tests

  • Turn on the payment terminal and launch the built-in auto-test programme.
  •  Allow the system to run an automated diagnostic test to detect potential faults.

5. Conducting Manual Functionality Tests

  • Follow the auto-test programme instructions to perform additional manual tests, which include:
  • Testing the printer function.
  • Swiping a mag-stripe card to check card reader functionality.
  •  Pressing keys to verify keypad responsiveness.

6. Identifying Faults and Selecting Replacement Parts

  • If faults are detected during the diagnostic tests:
  • Use the ERP system to select the required replacement parts.
  • Retrieve the necessary parts from the store.

7. Performing Repairs

  • Conduct modular part replacements, such as:
  • Main printed circuit board (PCB)
  •  Display unit
  •  Printer
  •  Replace external components when necessary, including:
  •   Power supplies
  •   Rechargeable battery packs
  •    Cables

8. Re-testing the Terminal

  • After completing the repair, rerun the diagnostic test using the auto-test programme.
  • Ensure all detected faults have been resolved.
  •  If issues persist, continue troubleshooting and repair until the terminal is fully functional.

9. Completing the Repair Process in the ERP System

  • Mark the job as "Finished" in the ERP system once all faults are fixed.

10. Preparing for Final Processing

  •  Hand over repaired terminals to the Dressing Team for thorough cleaning.
  •  Scan the repaired units in the ERP system to prepare them for key injection loading (if applicable). for the type of terminal) and move the terminals to the key injection area.
  • Once the terminals are returned from key injection, (where applicable), load the latest operating and customer software onto the terminals using memory sticks or via ethernet to CMS.
  • Hand a list of terminal serial numbers of terminals that have been repaired, to the Administrators for the Administrator to generate a quote for the customer.
  • Receive the approved customer quote from the Administrator and perform a quality check by switching the unit on and perform a final manual test.
  • Prepare terminals for despatch by putting them into boxes in accordance with the approved quote.
  • From time to time, strip terminals down for spare parts for storage.

Preparation of New Terminals

  • Where applicable, prepare new terminals for key injection by loading relevant key injection software using a memory stick.
  • Hand over terminals to the relevant department for key injection.
  • Load the latest operating and customer software onto new terminals using memory sticks or via ethernet to CMS.
  • Prepare terminals for despatch by putting them into boxes in accordance with customer requirements as per instruction from the line manager.
  • Count stock if requested to, during half-year and year-end stock takes.
  • Adhere to housekeeping and health and safety processes at the workbench in the Repair Centre.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Matric
  • N3 certificate – advantageous

Years of Experience:

Terminal testing and repair experience is advantageous

Other Requirements:

  • Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word advantageous.
  • Team-player
  • Detail-orientated
  • Good oral and written communication skills
