Job Description:

The Technical Writing Specialist will plan, write, and edit online technical documentation including user guides, best practices, release notes, installation manuals and solution guides in support of Ribbon Communications product software. The candidate will have a major responsibility maintaining documentation libraries in one or more product areas in a small team environment. The candidate is expected to work closely with field personnel and implement customer feedback to continually improve documentation usability and quality. Learning, upholding, and setting an example in implementing team standards, processes and the corporate style guide is required.

The Technical Writing Specialist must be able to successfully manage multiple projects from concept to publication under tight deadlines and changing conditions while coordinating and implementing input/feedback from numerous sources. The candidate is expected to act as a lead writer to coach other writers, while also personally producing documentation. S/he is expected to think critically to identify gaps in products or processes, show initiative and good judgment in developing solutions, and then inform/train writers or other stakeholders so the solutions are applied more broadly.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, writes, edits and conducts formal reviews of online technical product documentation for a software telecom audience using web-based Confluence Wiki team collaboration tool as the documentation author.
  • Collects data by interviewing Subject Matter Experts, researching written material, attending training and demonstrations, using the software on lab machines, and observing users.
  • Coordinates across cross-functional groups, proactively and effectively communicates at all levels, and regularly develops, adapts, and provides written and oral presentations, status reports, and updates.
  • Quickly learns and applies new tools, processes, and technical information.
  • Successfully manages multiple projects from concept to publication under tight deadlines. Initiates and drives projects to improve quality and efficiency; supports similar initiatives driven by others on the team.
  • Trains and mentors junior writers.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree; telecom knowledge is a plus
  • 3+ years of experience producing technical product documentation required, preferably in the telecom industry
  • Sophisticated understanding of the principles and practices of technical writing is essential
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Acrobat X Professional and Microsoft Office is required
  • Proficient with screen capture tools, such as SnagIt
  • Experience with Confluence Wiki software and developing online documentation is a plus
  • Demonstrated written communication skills
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills
  • Proficient in writing and speaking English
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities
  • Candidate must be attentive to publications standards, and demonstrate excellent grammatical and editorial skills
