Job Responsibilities

Procurement Support:

  • Collaborate with procurement teams to determine the appropriate level of maintenance contract entitlement for scientific instruments.

  • Assess equipment type, utilization rates, contingency plans, and breakdown history to recommend the most suitable contract tier, ranging from no contract to fully comprehensive service agreements.

  • Engage with the scientific community to ensure contract recommendations align with operational needs and risk tolerance, using data-driven analysis to demonstrate value.

  • Drive cultural change within the scientific community, winning buy-in for cost-saving and sustainable service strategies.

Service Strategy Analysis:

  • Perform "manage-to-maintain" analyses to determine which equipment should have contracts with external service providers (managed service) versus which can be maintained in-house (self-maintained service).

  • Evaluate technical requirements for in-house maintenance, factoring in the complexity of instruments, mechanical and electrical engineering demands, and available resources.

  • Develop and document decision-making frameworks to guide future service strategy decisions.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Utilize historical data and industry knowledge to forecast equipment maintenance needs and inform service-level decisions.

  • Create and present analytical models and reports to justify service-level recommendations.

  • Partner with operations teams to continuously refine and validate service strategies based on real-world performance.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as a technical liaison between operations, procurement, and the scientific community to balance operational risk and budget constraints.

  • Build trust and credibility with scientific users to advocate for optimal service solutions.

Critical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of laboratory equipment maintenance, including mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Familiarity with service contract tiers for scientific instruments and experience assessing service needs.

  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex datasets and present actionable insights.

  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive cultural change in risk-averse environments.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse teams, including scientists, engineers, and procurement specialists.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and drive consensus among diverse teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical experience.

  • 5+ years of industry experience working in laboratory environments serving laboratory equipment is highly desirable

Working Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory. 

  • Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high. 

  • Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations.  Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing and labeling hazardous waste. 

  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.

  • May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.

The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $65,000.00 to $80,000.00. The final base pay offered to the successful candidate will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, as well as individual qualifications, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
