Position Overview
Vantage is seeking an independent, initiative-driven, detail-oriented, team player to join the EMEA tax team as a Tax Manager, focusing initially on, and based in, Germany. The German market is one of our largest and most critical, with several operational data centres and a significant number of ongoing development projects.
You will work closely with our Tax Director, EMEA and the rest of the EMEA tax team, based in the UK, including our Indirect Tax Manager, EMEA. You will also work closely with the German finance team, led by the Senior Finance Controller, sharing office space with them. You will report to the Tax Director, EMEA.
This role is expected to be broad, covering both direct and indirect taxes (e.g., VAT, Property Tax, Real Estate Transfer Tax, etc.), and would likely suit a tax generalist with experience on the direct tax side. However, a desire to get involved in all taxes, with the necessary support available from the company, is crucial to success in this role. There is also scope for the area of responsibility to extend out to cover other nearby territories, such as Switzerland, in time.
Duties
- Support our local advisors and relevant Finance team colleagues with the preparation of our corporate income tax and trade tax returns. Ensure tax filing and payment deadlines are met and monitor local tax legislation updating processes as required.
- Support our local advisors, relevant Finance team colleagues, and the Indirect Tax Manager, EMEA, in the preparation of our periodic VAT returns, and then the annual VAT return. Ensure all filings and payment deadlines are met.
- Support Finance, HR, and payroll tax providers with local filings and be in a position provide a general overview of our regional employment tax position.
- Assist in the fulfilment of withholding tax compliance and reporting obligations.
- Support the EMEA tax team with the preparation of local and consolidated tax accounting disclosures for inclusion in the relevant statutory accounts.
- Respond to local tax authority enquiries for both direct and indirect taxes. Review and approve tax assessments received from the tax offices.
- Understand, document, and continuously improve tax processes and governance for taxes applicable to the German entities, identifying required changes and training needs, and working with stakeholders to manage changes.
- Work with Finance and Tax teams to identify viable areas for in-sourcing of tax workstreams and collaborate to implement the necessary processes and system readiness.
Job Requirements
- Expectation of minimum 3 days per week office attendance at our Raunheim corporate office.
- Preferably 6+ years of experience in direct tax, preferably with exposure to large multinational groups and/or German real estate. Experience of indirect tax is very beneficial.
- Professional qualification in tax (“Steuerberater”) strongly preferred.
- Qualifications in accounting / finance would be beneficial.
- Good communication and inter-personal skills, as business partnering will be a key part of the role.
- Comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.
- A positive attitude and desire to learn about and understand new tax concepts and regimes.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communications skills in English and German (at least C1 level) is required. Additional languages would be considered a bonus.
