We are seeking a Systems Test Engineer to join our team in developing complex scientific instruments integrating optics, fluidics, motion, thermal and electrical functions. In this role, you will work across the engineering team to test hardware at all phases of development to help drive design feedback, integration, reliability, and continuous performance improvement. Strong engineering fundamentals, rigorous critical thinking skills, and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and data analysis are essential attributes. This role will report to our Director, Systems Engineering and will be a San Diego based on-site role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Work with engineering team to define, document, and execute subsystem and system level testing of sequencing instruments
- Propose tests and experiments to investigate issues and verify fixes
- Execute tests, analyze results, and present to cross functional teams
- Analyze internal and external instrument logs to troubleshoot failures
- Contribute to characterization (eg: modeling, simulation, testing) of instrument system performance
- Support interdisciplinary root cause analysis involving electromechanical, thermal, optical and fluidic factors
- Contribute to prototype instrument assembly, bring-up and functional test
- Coordinate execution of engineering and design verification activities
- Work hands-on to integrate hardware, software, and firmware and identify and fix technical issues
Education and Experience:
- Minimum BS degree in Engineering or Physics and 2+ years relevant work experience (or equivalent combination of education and industry experience)
- Prior experience as a systems engineer with molecular diagnostics, genomic or similar automated instruments preferred
- Proficient with data analysis in MATLAB, Python, JMP or other programing languages or analysis tools required
- Hands-on engineer that has a strong commitment to working in the lab to improve product performance
- Experience with optics, fluidics, motion, or thermal testing beneficial
- Good documentation skills and efficient at time management
- Ability to work in a fast paced, interdisciplinary environment and quickly adjust to rapidly evolving technology and priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical issues and ideas to peers and management

Base Compensation Pay Range:
- $90,000 - $110,000
In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
Please note: Base compensation will depend on multiple factors, including geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
