Job Description

  

We are seeking a high caliber Electro-Optical Systems Engineer.  This senior level position offers the opportunity to work within a stimulating environment while engaging with a dedicated and professional team.  Drive, enthusiasm, and the desire to succeed within a dynamic team environment are essential for this role.  You will play a significant part in driving the end product solution as well as developing the Excelitas vision for next generation technologies.   Excelitas being a global organization a level of national & international travel can be expected.

Role Outline:

Responsible for leading the development of Electro-Optical solutions for next generation products.  You will lead the technical solution while working within an integrated project team.   Main responsibilities & duties will typically include:

  • Perform systems engineering and requirements management throughout the product lifecycle;
  • Interacting with customers and translating their needs into mission analysis & stakeholder needs & requirements;
  • Develop system and sub-system specifications for flow down (internal / external);
  • Demonstrate product compliance by managing the verification & validation matrixes;
  • Provide input into system level testing and qualification activities;
  • Develop system trade studies, models, architectures, & concepts within a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Become the technical interface to internal and external customers;
  • Provide systems engineering inputs during field trials;
  • Provide technical support to the business development team;
  • Lead all aspects of the technical proposal submission;
  • Work independently with minimum guidance while executing deliverables;
  • Developing and teaching best practices system engineering processes;
  • Communicating compliantly across an ITAR barrier to UK engineers and/or making local technical decisions as needed;
  • Stage gate technical reviews of subcontractors, including developing specialists to review subcontractor work.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, optics, optoelectronics, electronics, or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 10 years Systems Engineering experience (less may be considered for the ideal candidate);
  • Experience of developing Electro-Optical imaging systems inclusive of system modelling and analysis;
  • Experience of delivering compliant Electro-Optical imaging systems against a customer requirement;
  • Experience of leadership of a multi-disciplined engineering project team;
  • Experience of requirements management, flows down, verification & validation during the product life cycle;
  • Proficient written (reports, proposals, white papers) and verbal skills (technical presentations);
  • Please note that due to the requirements from the Department of Energy, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.

Desirable Experience & Skills:

  • Educated to Master’s or Ph.D.;
  • Certified to INCOSE CSEP or ESEP;
  • Experience of integration & testing of Electro-Optical imaging systems;
  • Experience of integration of IR focal plane arrays, image processing, & electronics;
  • Good understanding of optical imaging systems;
  • Good understanding of RF module integration & test;
  • Good understanding of other engineering disciplines (electronics, test, mechanics, FEA, thermal, safety);
  • Experience of working within the defense industry and delivering solutions to the appropriate standards;
  • Experience of customer discovery/stakeholder needs and requirements.
