Job Description
The Systems Safety Engineer is key in developing eVTOL urban air mobility product & services solutions. This position requires an experienced professional with expertise in defining and applying safety processes and procedures in alignment with SAE ARP4754A/B and SAE 4761A, as well as safety requirements definition and safety analyses. The Systems Safety Engineer works with different engineering teams and liaises closely with the Systems Engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Apply safety engineering principles to support investigation, analysis, planning, design, development, testing, evaluation, and implementation of eVTOL systems
- Review and prepare safety engineering and technical analysis reports and other technical documentation
- Execution of aircraft-level safety activities, including requirements definition, validation, and verification, PRAs (Particular Risk Analysis), and ZSA (Zonal Safety Analysis)
- Participate in architecture definition, evaluate systems architecture, support trade-off and feasibility studies
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to other departments in all aspects of Safety System Engineering industry best practices
- Support aircraft and systems-level testing related to validation/verification of failure conditions
- Support multi-disciplinary design reviews throughout the different aircraft development phases per the development plan
- Review engineering drawings, schematics, and design specifications as necessary
- Improve safety engineering processes to comply with ARP-4761A
- Collaborate with Supernal SMEs and DERs to ensure their responsible systems comply with all applicable airworthiness regulations (FAA/EASA)
- Requires up to 10% of domestic and international travel
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or Electrical Engineering or other related field required; Master’s preferred
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in systems aerospace safety and reliability domains for an aerospace program
- Experience working with FAA or other regulatory agencies
- Knowledge across Safety Engineering domains, to include Functional Hazard Assessments (AFHA or SFHA), Preliminary Safety Assessments (PASA or PSSA), Safety Assessments (ASA or SSA), DAL Assignment (FDAL and IDAL)
- Knowledge of Safety Analysis Methods, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA or FMES), Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA) and Common Mode Analysis (CMA)
