About the Team

Are you interested in a new adventure managing a team of dedicated engineers building Developer Tooling? The Product Developer Tooling organization develops software and tools to support all of Workday Product Development and Testing and is extremely passionate about improving developer productivity.
As a Software Development Manager in our Tooling organization, you will be at the foundation of Workday’s technology, leading a team that builds the software that empowers other engineers across Workday to rapidly develop, test and deliver high quality products. Our team currently serves the almost 3,000 strong Workday development community by providing scalable development and testing tools that are vital to support an efficient and continuous delivery platform. We have a work environment that is not driven by external product launches, but is driven by the needs of our own development community, which allows us to focus on producing well thought-out solutions that enhance our development environment, automated testing and delivery pipeline.

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic Software Development Manager for our Chennai office to help build and lead our Tooling initiatives and scrum teams. You will be in a key position to better serve our community of users across Workday into the future. You will lead and inspire high-performing teams at Workday, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where employees are engaged and empowered. As a business leader with a growth mindset, you will use your technical expertise to drive innovation and achieve sustainable business success. You will coach and mentor team members, providing the support they need to excel. Your empathetic leadership style will enable you to navigate challenges and galvanize your teams in times of pressure.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner and collaborate with multi-functional customers to prioritize, plan and deliver first-rate experiences for Workday customers
  • Drive the activities of development scrum teams delivering innovative features for customers
  • Co-ordinate the analysis, design, programming, debugging, and improvement of high-quality product(s)
  • Engage with Development and Product partners to identify, discuss, debate and ultimately solve customer issues in increasingly innovative ways
  • Understand and promote industry-standard methodologies
  • Coach and mentor team members to help them to be at their best, assisting with career growth and personal development

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ Years of overall experience in software development

  • With 6+ years of proven experience in product development as an individual contributor

  • With 3+ Years of demonstrated ability in software engineering leadership or management roles

  • Proven track record of coordinating the development and delivery of complex software projects

  • Proficient working with agile methodologies such as Scrum & Kanban

  • Ability to plan, estimate, prioritize, schedule, execute and deliver on the Product roadmap

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

  • Strong technical background with good analytical skills

  • Passionate about fostering an inclusive and collaborative team culture that empowers career growth

Other Qualifications:

  • You see software development as a team sport and thrive in a highly collaborative and agile culture where you’re always guiding and learning
  • You have managed and coached software developers ranging in experience from new engineers up to seasoned professionals
  • Strong design and technical capabilities in object oriented and/or functional programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Ruby, Scala, etc
  • You have a strong focus on delivering high-quality software products, continuous innovation, and you value test automation and performance engineering
  • You are proactive and able to deliver on initiatives that you start
  • You demonstrate the interpersonal skills needed to positively influence important issues or decisions in a multi-functional environment
  • You have the ability to communicate technical complexity in simple terms to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • You put people first and ensure a psychologically safe environment for team members
  • BE in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
